| Thomson modem with blinking lights I just got connected this morning for my 60/3mbps cable connection.
Since the tech left at around 11, my modem keeps resetting itself, lights going from left to right, then from right to left. This is happening every exact 2 minutes.
I cable the tech support, and they're sending in a new modem, but the thing is, I doubt it's a modem issue.
I unplugged my Linksys E3000 N router, and tried it without: same issue I switched the modem to a different wall plug: same issue
Now, something I noticed, I get the issue when the DL/UP has time to get very high, i.e. every 2 minutes! So, I decided to limit my connection through my PC to 100kb/sec of upload, and weird, it hasnt reset since and it's been 15min.
Any idea of why my modem could crash when going full speed? If the guy from the tech support's right, I'll be the first one to be happy. I just wanna make sure I checked every possibility.
Thanks. |

What's your ISP? |
|
 | The tech's not coming, the new modem is.
The ISP's Electronic Box. |

| reply to irepressed Oh, something I forgot to ask:
For the lights to blink like that, it says in the Thomson manual; "Wait registration with all DS and all US - Lights flash"
Wait registration? Registration with the provider? Modem sync? Not sure I understand what they mean. |

 | reply to irepressed I won't pretend I know a lot about this stuff, but can you go to »192.168.100.1/ and look at event log to see what is happening? |

If your online light is blinking that is normal, that just means that the modem's MAC is not active on the order yet. If the tech came at 11am and the light is still blinking now, give us a call and I will look into it for you. |

1 edit | reply to alexpb1 Thanks a lot for this info, I do see the logs and I will look into it.
@eboxnat: I should post a video of what the modem does. It,s not just the online light blinking, it's the whole row of lights. And as per the modem's manual, it's part of a process, I just don't understand which one. LOL
I've been monitoring my connection that I set to 8/1mbps speeds for about 4 hours now, and I've only seen it crash twice. At least, it's getting better, but still does not explain the random resets. |

| reply to irepressed Thanks to Alexpb1, here's what I was able to find from the logs:
On every reset that I get, this error appears: "A transmit opportunity was missed because the MAP arrived too..."
followed right after y "DCC depart old;CM-MAC=00:26:24:e8:92:ae CMTS-MAC=..."
and then "DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response ;CM-MAC..."
and then again "A transmit opportunity was missed because the MAP arrived too... "
to finally end with: "Authorized;CM-MAC=00:26:24:e8:92:ae;CMTS-MAC=00:0d:bc:1f:d3:c... "
all of this in a 30seconds span. The first mentionned MAC 00:26:24:e8:92:ae is coming from my brand new cable modem provided by EBOX. A possible conflict?
Oh, and make it 3 resets, I just got one while typing this. |

1 edit | reply to irepressed Alright, latest details, I decided to test my theory and unleash the power of my connection, and... as expected, the modem "reboots" itself, or crashes, about every 2 minutes when the upload is going at full pace.
Taken directly from a Cisco manual: "%UBR900-4-MAP_ARRIVED_TOO_LATE: M01.0 A transmit opportunity was missed because the MAP arrived too late Explanation The cable modem missed a transmit opportunity because the Bandwidth Allocation MAP arrived too late for the cable modem to use it. This error message is DOCSIS event message is M01.0, Upstream Bandwidth Allocation. Recommended Action No action is needed, because it is normal for MAC-layer messages to be occasionally lost. If this problem persists, check the RF plant for cabling and connector problems that could be generating noise on the downstream."
Signal problem??? |

Honestly, all the info you posted about your modem logs is like a foreign language to me lolol so I don't know if its good stuff or bad.
Our contact info is on our site :P |

| reply to eboxnat modem has been replaced, issue is still happening when uploading full speed.
Logs have been sent to your technical support, Sebastien spoke to Videotron's Level2 guys, and they're sending someone to my place this weekend cause they can't figure out what's wrong. |

| Check out the page numbered "3" of the above .PDF it contains the bootup sequence and lights flashing descriptions. |
|
 | reply to irepressed Yep, I did check this guide yesterday, I wrote that this is the corresponding sequence I'm getting every 2 minutes when going at ful upload speed:
"Wait registration with all DS and all US - Lights flash"
Thanks anyways |

| reply to irepressed Well, after a long conversation with EBOX's tech support on friday, they decided to send a Videotron tech.
Tech just left my house. He did put an adapter which brought the return path signal to 38dbmv (from 30dbmv), but issue is still happening.
As soon as I use more than half of my upload speed (200kb/sec+), the modem "reboots" itself (lights flashing from left to right than from right to left), 100 packet lost for 20sec, then it comes back up.
I spoke to someone else who's having the exact same issue with EBOX extreme 60. Hopefully someone will be able to solve this fast as it's getting very annoying. |

| reply to irepressed Well, now it's definitely getting worse... I'm at about 50kb/sec and it drops every 5minutes... this is very annoying.
A new Videotron tech is supposed to pass by in 2 days, to see what's going on. Sounds like the one they sent today was just a "cable" guy since he didnt know what a packet loss was... (!!!??).
I really hope this one'll fix the issue since losing my connection every 5 minutes (or even twice in 3 hours) is still too much for me as I work from home very often and do video/audio conferencing through my Internet connection. |
