1 edit | WoW Loses 100k Subscribers, Subscriber Decline Slows From WoWHeadNews:
The Activision Blizzard quarterly call was today and it seems like the subscription drops have slowed down for the time being. World of Warcraft is only down 100,000 subscribers this past quarter unlike the past three quarters where World of Warcraft lost 600k, 300k, and finally 800k subscribers last November. Of course, this isn't surprising, given 4.3 dropped during this time along with the yearly subscription promotion where players got a free copy of Diablo III in exchange for committing to a year of World of Warcraft game time.
Keep in mind, however, this is still a disappointing result. Many people were anticipating a momentary increase in subscribers, but it was still a minor decline despite a large patch and many new features.
Other points of note:
*There are approximately 50 million monthly active users across Battle.net *World of Warcraft has around 10.2 million subscribers
Keep in mind, this could change, as Morhaime has not spoken yet--but this is from the opening slides. We will update this post with more things if the call proves to reveal further about Mists of Pandaria or further numbers. I'm not worried at all, and still love the game. Just thought some of you might like a good read before heading home from work.

 | 50 million active users on b.net but only 10 million WoW accounts?
That is a LOT of Starcraft players. |

Subscription expires Feb 23 and I would like to get my Shaman to 80...but I just can't will myself to stay logged in for more than 2 minutes. Maybe when Panda Express comes out I may play the game again. -- What smells like blue? |

 | reply to Immer I found it hard to believe that they suckered 1 million people with that annual pass. It looks like diablo will be at least 3 months more. And they seemed like that were only expecting to release 2 titles this year so either sc or wow slips - mop doesn't look like it will be out anytime soon. |
|
 | They aren't going to leave us with just Dragon Soul for over a year. There is not going to be a 4.4 content patch with a new raid. Who would we fight? That would leave with Dragon Soul for over a year, which isn't going to happen. MoP will be out this year, my wild-assed guess would be around October, if not earlier. 5.0 patch, with new talent trees probably around June. Beta starting in April.
Basically, MoP needs to come out before the first annual passes start ending. Which means early-mid October, at the latest. -- When the ship lifts, all bills are paid. No regrets. |

D3 will take $60 off the cost. So you get cheap game time + D3 and D3 Beta. It helps Blizz because they can say "look, we still have all these subscribers!" -- What smells like blue? |

 | reply to Immer They mentioned on the call that they were preparing to start MoP beta "soon". Just saying. -- I am stating my opinion. Obviously you don't like it. Honestly, I don't care. |

Thank you, Kristin, and thank you all for joining us today. 2011 is another record year for Activision Blizzard. In 2011, we generated nearly $1 billion in operating cash flow. And over the last 3 years, we've generated over $3.5 billion in operating cash flow, and we've returned more than $3 billion in value to our shareholders through dividends and stock repurchases.
In the U.S. and Europe, we remain the largest and most profitable third-party interactive entertainment company and the largest and most profitable third-party interactive entertainment digital publisher. We again delivered better-than-expected financial results and achieved multiple financial and operational records, as we have for the last few years. We achieved record operating margins and record EPS, which grew more than 17% over the prior year, and as I mentioned, we generated nearly $1 billion in operating cash flow, which allows us to continue to invest thoughtfully in our future growth and return capital to our shareholders.
With that in mind, we're increasing our dividend 9% to $0.18 per share, and our Board of Directors has authorized a new $1 billion stock repurchase program. The story is longish. I cut and pasted 2.5 paragraphs. Read more at the link. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

| reply to Immer I have been leveling up my lower toons as of late. I got my main to 85, and just don't have an interest in "end game content". The level 85 quests are interesting, but PvPer isn't my cup or tea, nor is the cry feast that dungeons crawls turn into after a nice item drops.
So as I level my other toons, I try to do so in areas where my main hasn't gone. I have a goal in mind for one toon that just hit 60. I'm going to try to get him to do all the quests in kalimdor, so he gets the lore master achievement. Those are the type of things that keep me interested, not Pvper or End game stuff. -- Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? What did you fail at today?. |

 | reply to Immer I agree 100%, WoW is still fun game to play for me. It has still has something for everyone, every level.
The numbers appear to be stabilizing, although I would expect a gradual drop quarterly until Mist's drop, and then there will be an explosion. I have very high hopes for Mists, as I think a lot of people do. Personally, I can wait to play a Pandarin monk.
I've slowed down recently on play time due to work, but when I have a few moments of spare time it's still a worthwile endeavor.
I'm presently working on the Insane title, as I can't commit to a raid schedule probably until Mists actually, and maybe I'm sadistic but I'm finding it fun. It seems built for an altoholic. |

I am playing SWTOR now but still log in to my WOW account three or four times a week and do not see myself stopping this anytime soon. It's still fun, and swapping back and forth seems to help keep both games from becoming stagnant for me. Toss in the free D3 and insta-Beta access (something I've never had a chance to do) and I'm sold. With a smile. |

| I just log on to PvP with friends now and that is refreshing. I don't have time to raid and WoW's pvp fighting mechanics are great IMO. Too many people have a rush to the end mentality and WoW and that blurs the great vastness of this game. Still the best MMORPG out there from what I have played. It can get stale but no other game comes off as polished. |

 | reply to Immer I think its due to terrible customer service and a very lackluster tier of raiding in 4.3. Ds is not a particularly challenging raid, I feel FL was way more challenging. |
