b34tBoXPremium join:2003-12-28 Ontario, CAN | Name this nut. Hey, this is from the family of coupler nuts, except it has a male and opposite female end.
Not sure it it has a specific name, but I'm having a hard time finding them online.
Need them to extend the tie rod arm. -- All Your Bass Are Belong To Us. |

bgraham join:2001-03-15 Smithtown, NY | I think they are called extender nuts, but I would not buy just any old part for a steering item. Nuts and bolts come in many grades of steel and I would think that you should get the correct part from a parts store or the dealer. |

Need them to extend the tie rod arm. I do not see you finding anything rated for extending a tie rod due to it being a critical steering component. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

I'm lowered 3" and nearing the end of available threads. Getting even shorter springs this summer so will need to extend tie rods. or invert them which required modification as well. I know the linkage rods, and there's a picture of how it's assembled, I can't seem to find that hardware anywhere!

 b34tBoXPremium join:2003-12-28 Ontario, CAN | Car pictured is a 7th gen civic (01-05). I'm doing this on a 2005 civic (EM2).
The tie rod adapter you posted is for Corolla and will not fit my thread type for tie rod (M14x1.5), but that's basically what I want to do here.
The car pictured is actually using a modified version of a inverted tie rod setup for an Acura (DC5). Here's what's required to modify it.
Lathe taper to fit EM2 tie rod hole in strut.
and drill cotter pin lower:
Okay, you see those washers in your picture that are tapered, do you know the name of them? Looks like they hold the linkage rod in place, may be easier to find than the sleeve things I posted. Appreciate your help, the parts are coming together. -- All Your Bass Are Belong To Us. |

b34tBoXPremium join:2003-12-28 Ontario, CAN | reply to b34tBoX Sweet OK, Those washers are Misalignment Spacers.
I know I need 1/2" bolt to go through the strut tie rod hole. A M14x1.5 linkage rod (hard to find but I found it). Then washers and nuts where needed.
Looks like this is going to work! Wish I could find a tapered bolt to fit, but I went to 5 different hardware suppliers and found nothing like that.
Closest was something like this: It was Grade 5 metal. -- All Your Bass Are Belong To Us. |

JuggernautIrreverent or irrelevant?Premium join:2006-09-05 Everywhere kudos:1 | You realize you're machining the surface hardness off, right? Not a good idea... Catastrophic failure comes to mind.
And, the same for NOT using a tapered bolt. It creates an interference fit, as in 'pressed' fitting.
FFS man, do it right. |

Yeah, but that spherical rod end bearing isn't what he is looking for. Those are easy to obtain. It is the hardened bolt with the two high offset tapered adapter sleeves and the nylon or castellated locking nut (Marsden nut) that he is having sourcing issues with instead..
Rod end bearing »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_end_bearing quote: A rod end bearing, also known as a heim joint (N. America) or rose joint (U.K. and elsewhere), is a mechanical articulating joint. Such joints are used on the ends of control rods, steering links, tie rods, or anywhere a precision articulating joint is required. A ball swivel with an opening through which a bolt or other attaching hardware may pass is pressed into a circular casing with a threaded shaft attached. The threaded portion may be either male or female.
