[DSL] 25/7 Upgrade - Only Getting Half UL Speed

Hello. I just finished with the installation for the new speed service and am a little concerned by the early results of speed tests.

*Tested a few times over the last hour. Results similar.*

The download speed I'm fine with. I know it varies to lesser amounts than the listed speed. However the upload speed is just about half.

I'd like to inquire if anyone else on the sew service is experiencing the same thing. I'm not well versed in how the technology works but I think even with the speed varying to lesser amounts of the listed speed, half is way less than it should be.

Basically I want to know if the actual final speed ends up around what my results are.

Has anyone tested and gotten up near the listed 7M?

If so, would it be recommended that I just wait for a bit to see if it speeds up or call into tech support to see if there's a bad connection somewhere?

Thank you. I'm a little concerned because the upload speed is what I upgraded for specifically and if it's only half of what I thought it was going to be I'd feel severely ripped off.

I get the full 7Mbps up, so there's some issue with your connection somewhere. You could try posting your VDSL stats, and we could see if your line is fine.

Alternately, try using speedtest.net, as I've found it gives a bit more reliable results than the java test.

your router and/or PC cant keep up. try using flash based speedtest.net tests and use a different router.
also check your mdoem connection using its control panel for the cellpipe.

Well I'm more comfortable knowing that the service itself is fine.

How would I go about accessing the control panel? It didn't come with any papers/instructions.

DL speed is still great but UL stays in the same area. Is it possible for that high of a DL speed to be fine but the UL speed not be fine?

Can you recommend a good site or software to show the detailed stats?

Thank you.

*EDIT*
I will note that the connection is the same with router or directly connected to the modem.

I found out how to acces the modem on Bell's site. Typing 192.168.2.1 in a browser. It did not succeed however and returned a page error saying it couldn't find the address.

Post in the Direct forum and have Teksavvy take a look at it.

Yeah that was the plan. I just wanted to find out if others were getting the full speed so I had a basis to report on.

Well currently this is my speed:

I've also been able to access 192.168.2.1 just fine if I connect directly to the Cellpipe. Not so much if I plug a WRT54GS into it, still have to figure out how to route it later...

Apparently my speed was actually set to only be 4 Mb upload.

They've sending a ticket to Bast... Bit... Bell to modify it.

Thanks for the responses everyone. It helped pinpoint the issue.

Not much we can do without the line stats, since we can't even rule out any of that.

I talked with the support today. They checked the profile and it was set to 4 Mb. So they said.

They'll be sending a confirmation email once Bell has updated it so I'm going to wait and see if it's up to snuff after. If not, that leaves technical issues left.

Don't forget the $99 fee when Bell decides it's your fault.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

Alright this is apparently the best I can get. They set it to 4Mb before because apparently the up lines leading to my place are most stable at that. They set it to 6.4 now and that's using 100% capacity but I will never get the full 7 until they make some upgrades in my area.

I have to say I wish I would have been told this. All I was told was that it is available in my area. Not 1 word that I may not receive the full upload capacity.

C'est la vie.
