furtim join:2012-02-09 Kitchener, ON | DCM475 will not sync - Super frustrated with Acanac Cable I signed up with Acanac for Cable internet which was to be activated on Friday Feb 3, 2012. My Rogers went down that day.. and I connected my Acanac modem, which up until yesterday, was connecting to the Rogers network, getting a 10.68.x.x address, and was bringing me to a webpage saying my modem wasnt provisioned, and to call 1888-rogers1.
Yesterday (Feb 8th) afternoon, I noticed the modem now will not sync at all, and the only LED's that are on are Power, and DS is blinking. The modems event log/config page says its not able to sync.
After a total of 6 calls, and over 3.5 hours on hold, not only am i still not online, but my modem wont even sync with the Rogers network for unactivated modems.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get this resolved? Has anyone been through anything similar?
Thanks! - furtim |

in the GUI or the modem itself, i m not sure |

Thanks for the idea |

 | reply to furtim If your modem is not able to lock on any downstream channels, your cable may have been disconnected by Rogers. This happens somewhat frequently when people who do not have TV service switch from Rogers to a TPIA. Seems like TPIA orders fail to cancel Rogers disconnects. |

| All the people jumping from TSI are going to find out that all that shit they said TSI blamed on rogers bell etc is for real most times. They just dont get it.It happens and rogers/bell have no ambition to fix it,nor has any ISP filed a complaint with CRTC |
|
 | reply to furtim Likely cause: Rogers tech showed up and physically disconnected your cable connection. Acanac's transfer/connection order some how didn't make it to Rogers.
You have to talk to Acanac. Minimum Rogers' respond to TPIA query is 2 days. You probably have to make appointment via Acanac for Roger's tech to reconnect the cable which takes at least another week. |

Going to be fun seeing them complain about the same things elsewhere and still insist that it is their ISP's fault rather than the underlying carrier's. |

It took a week just to get my modem re-provisioned after the visiting tech didn't flag my install as complete after a move and I got flushed. |

| reply to furtim If you've recently cancelled a cable service with Rogers, it's possible they've placed a filter on your line that is now blocking your internet access.
If you can access the cable box and see that a filter is there, you can remove it yourself or open a ticket to have Acanac send rogers out to do it. |

 | this is so sitop all oover again why dont more people sign up with primus they are atleast puttiong equipment in the co s |

Cablecos rarely bother filtering digital frequencies since cable modems and STBs can be digitally locked out by simply de-authorizing them, which is much simpler, faster and cheaper than sending techs out.
When they put filters in the boxes or on the line, it is usually to block ranges of analog TV channels... such as when they install a cable drop for digital-only (internet or TV) subscribers since the cableco cannot prevent analog TVs from tuning in any other way - short of scrapping analog. |

| reply to furtim Based on your description, it appears that the coax was disconnected.
So basically Rogers was quicker in processing your disconnection request then they were processing your connection request.
This type pf problem used to be common on Bell with Bell pulling the plug on the DSL service having not realised that there was already a pending order for connection. Over the years, ISPs and Bell learned how to reduced the incidence of Bell cutting sync prematurely.
Rogers/cable won't process a TPIA connection unless there is a pending disconnection. So there needs to be careful timing.
When calling Rogers to disconnect, you need to schedule it such that there are enough days for Rogers to enter your disconnection request, and then for the TPIA group at Rogers to process your connection request with the new ISP before the actual disconnection day so that Rogers will know not to send a workcrew to cut your coax.
A good ISP needs to properly educate customers about this timing before those customers have called the cable company to cut off their old service. |

 | reply to furtim Man as much as I hate Bell, Rogers just sounds so much worse when having to deal with independants |
|
 | reply to InvalidError The "filter" is a physical dongle that essentially plugs/locks your cable to prevent you from reconnecting to their network by yourself.
Google returns lots of hits on "Cable TV Security Shield Filter Removing Tool CATV". |

1 edit | reply to furtim Just talked to our head tec guy Trevor and he said it sounds like your modem is not provisioned properly. I would be giving our tec support a call and asking them to put in a ticket for provisioning. If you want to pm me your information(name on account or user name) I will see if I can get Glenna who is the head of the cable department to look at it for you.
UPDATE:
Talked to Glenna for you and she is going to keep checking your ticket today and will keep checking with Rogers to see if we can get this straightened out for you today. Answered your pm. |

 | reply to Ott_Cable A filter and a cable-lock shield are two completely different things. The filter is a passive RF device that plugs in-line with the cable while the shield is a purely mechanical device that fits over connections to sort-of deter tampering. |
|
 | That's a common google search term for the "chastity device" that the cableco put it on your disconnected cable as I already pointed out.
No one in the real life bothers with the proper terms. |

furtim join:2012-02-09 Kitchener, ON | Hey everyone,
Thanks for all your suggestions. As most of you suspected those goofs at Robbers must have stopped by my house, and disconnected the cable at the box in my back yard.
I've reconnected the cable, however my modem is still not getting online (which is a separate issue), I'm getting "online" but i only get the Robbers activation screen asking me to contact 1888-rogers1..
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get Rogers to get off their a$$ and activate my modem on Acanac?
Thanks! |
