[VoIP] How does TWC hook up voip to ur old phone wiring?

How does TWC hook up voip to your old house phone wiring? Do they disconnect the wiring at the nid or what? If anybody can show pictures of the install or installed product that would be great.

They normally give you the cablemodem which has a phone jack that you hook your phone to. Not sure they will get involved with hooking into household wiring.

They dont hook into your old home wiring, they give you a box that hooks to the coax cable like your internet modem does, then you hook your phone to that box.

Yes, they can hook into your existing wiring. They just disconnect the phone wiring from the telco phone system (from the box that is usually on the side of your house) and then plug a phone cord from the modem into a nearby phone jack.

Yes they can either do it on the inside or outside depending on your setup. I was porting from one carrier to TWC and because the port wasn't complete at the time of install the tech just replaced the phone jack next to the cable modem with a new one that had 2 connections on it. It literally splits out the line so when you plug the modem into it it backfeeds the home with the telephone signal.. AND you have a regular phone jack with it.

Same thing here, only all service was active, and the guy tested most of the phones and jacks in the house before he left. He did miss a couple of unused bedroom jacks that were done as a home-run from the telco NID, but it took me a better than a year to notice myself.

When we had digital phone installed the installer just snipped the wire at the NID that lead to the outside world and capped it off so that way when the modem was hooked up to the phone jack in the house the signal wouldn't get sent back out and only stay within the wiring in the house. The rest of the wiring at the NID was obviously left alone otherwise none of the jacks would work lol

I was hoping somebody would post some pictures how TWC does this from the outside to the nid box.

all depends on your set up and the tech. we often install downstairs by power if phone and cable are already there. all the tech needs is an active coax line with quality signal reasonably close to phone and power. any phone jack that works now will work when he leaves. any jacks that aren't active now will not work unless you ask for them to be hooked up (possible extra charges involved) they simply remove pots dial tone and add their own. in some cases they may need to add a phone line or cable outlet, only thing they can't add is the power outlet.

They don't run a new wire to the NID. They cut off the old feed from the Telco to isolate the NID.

They run a wire from the Cable modem to a nearby phone jack. the signal then travels to the NID through the existing internal wiring. The NID then bridges the signal back out to all of the other jacks through the existing internal wiring.
