[Speed] Does anything on my modems status page look out of place

Click for full size
I wanted to ask does my power and signal and stuff look alright? I continue to have issues, with my modem acting like its ranging and when it does this I lose connectivity or speeds drop considerably.

This will be the fourth time a tech has been out. The first one had to call somebody to change out a tap that was filled with water. The second one checked everything and said he believed me when I said it was something up on the pole some where, so he called out a line tech, and two guys came out and I thought the problem was fixed but it was not. They said there was a problem with an amp and that they replaced it.

Is all my stuff in line with what the acceptable specs are or is something off?

I see none of your signal stats posted.

Should be posted now..., I thought I had attached the image last night but I guess I did not.

Your levels are within specs and look good

Maybe it's the modem. I will try to get it switched out on Monday.

Same Web Slowness and lag problems here even with D3 and 4 channels, but "ONLY" during evening and night hours 7pm to just after midnight. The same ARRIS Modem DS Power levels range from +7dBmV - +17dBmV and this never ending continuous logging every minute "SW Download INIT - Via Config file", immediately followed by this one "SW upgrade Failed after download -Incompatible SW file".

If the ARRIS is not at fault, then wonder what else might the SL Techs check for?

Hi atuarre.

What colors are the Lights on the ARRIS...maybe all Green? My ARRIS "DS" light is "yellow" and flashes for several seconds every minute or so.

Your modem levels are deffently out of spec, and your modem is being hit to hard with foward levels. This could be caused by a wrong tap value or a bridger running out two hot. If your having troubles you should have a tech come out to investigate this issue. Are your levels hotter in the evening or do they stay the same through out the entire day.

Thank you r2d2 for your prompt and excellent response.

The power levels are higher in the mid evening and night only, that coincides with the drops and fluctuations in net speeds which are sometimes down 75% off the D3 20 MAX, but recently power levels seem to drop about 5 - 6 dBmV during the day. This 5am was up near +18 and now on this below freezing temp afternoon was down to about +13.5, but fortunately No net speed issues during this or any day like those mentioned net issues that always occurs after 7pm, as only the net seems choked in the prime used hours, but multiple connections coming in or out max outs the speed. so does not seem to experience the net slowdowns and issues. Same with different computer systems, OS, browsers and hardware.

Could your info might also explain why this ARRIS has a "yellow" DS light and not "green" for ultra Hi-Speed, as other users of the modem and speed package have mentioned that they have "green" DS lite with their DOCSIS 3 20 max connection?

Really appreciate any other possible info that you might offer.

Edit: Wonder about the UPStream level at 32.75, as it used to be about 40?

Thanks again.

You deffently have a bridger acting up because when the days cool off your signal levels get hotter also the return amp is having to work less to get your signal back to the cmts,

I've not worked with the Arris modems that much. so i'm not for sure why the light is not lit up it may be because that the modem is only sycned at one up stream channel which is all that is offered in the charleston markets at this time.

This is how it used to be:

ARRIS

Power is green
DS is solid yellow
US and Online is Green
and Link is yellow and constantly blinks.

Whenever the cable modem loses connection, US and DS blink.

Now, every so often US and DS flash and my modem speeds drop when that happens. All this started after we had some big storm. Before that, the lights stayed solid as noted above.

Thanks much atuarre.

About the same with this ARRIS and that US and DS interactive blinking that I thought maybe related to that continuous event logging of SW config failures?
Big storms can certainly play havoc, especially if there is heavy rains and very high winds, like some we've had in past weeks.

Best Regards.

• First of all check your signal quality. Got to 192.168.100.1 and signal tab.

- For all modems:
-15 dBmV to +15 dBmV maximum.
-12 dBmV to +12 dBmV recommended.

0 dBmV is the "optimal" level.

Upstream (Tx) Transmit Power (a.k.a. Return Signal) level:
This is the amount of signal transmitted by the modem to reach the receiver in the cable company head-end.

+8 dBmV to +58 dBmV maximum for QPSK. (DOCSIS 1.x)
+8 dBmV to +55 dBmV maximum for 8 QAM and 16 QAM. (DOCSIS 1.x)
+8 dBmV to +54 dBmV maximum for 32 QAM and 64 QAM. (A-TDMA DOCSIS 2.0)
+8 dBmV to +53 dBmV maximum for S-CDMA DOCSIS 2.0 modulation rates.

Recommended upstream signal levels are +35 dBmV to +52 dBmV.

A cable modem running a higher upstream modulation rate may downgrade itself to a lower modulation rate (i.e. 64 QAM to 16 QAM or 16 QAM to QPSK) if the upstream transmit level is higher than the maximum signal level allowed for the higher modulation rate and the CMTS is configured to allow such a change. This downgrade can cause slow speed, packet loss, and connection loss issues depending on the condition of the upstream channel.

A house or drop amplifier will NOT fix upstream signal problem because most house amplifiers don't amplify the upstream signals, they only pass the upstream signal through with some loss.

SNR (signal to noise ratio) levels:
This is how clear the signal is at either the modem receiver (downstream SNR) or the receiver in the cable company head-end (upstream SNR).

DOCSIS specifications list minimum CNR (carrier to noise ratio) levels not SNR levels. The SNR levels listed here are based on commonly recommended MER levels for digital cable signals. Not all QAM demodulator chipsets accurately calculate SNR levels that approximate actual MER levels, so these levels may vary depending on which chipset and/or firmware is used in the equipment.

QPSK: 12 dB minimum. 15 dB or higher recommended. (often used in upstream channels)
16 QAM: 18 dB minimum. 21 dB or higher recommended. (often used in upstream channels)
64 QAM: 24 dB minimum. 27 dB or higher recommended. (often used in downstream channels)
256 QAM: 30 dB minimum. 33 dB or higher recommended. (often used in downstream channels)

I also am having issues, but most of them is because suddenlink appears to be modifying their routes and DNS servers.
I was having pages "pause" while loading, and when I went to a Google help link, it opened up a suddenlink search page.

Surprisingly I changed the DNS server and voila the pages load with a nice snap.
