New Linksys WRT54GL keep asking for password
I bought two of these routers, one I flashed with Tomato firmware and was getting ready to flash the other also but every time I clicked any menu entry it asks for default pass 'admin' (or whatever other pass you set it to) and I didn't like to proceed with flashing its firmware to Tomato because of worry that this funky behavior might interfere with successful flashing.
OK I solved it by connecting via Firefox instead of IE. It behaved just fine in Firefox and I flashed the firmware and everything seems to be OK now even when I access the router via IE. Funny thing is the first unit was just fine with IE and its password.
Mine does the same way, something funny about Linksys' firmware (mine is running Firmware Version: v4.30.15) and IE. The interesting thing is you can just cancel the login box, let it load the pinkish unauthorized page, and then hit the back button and select what every tab or page you wanted to open; it will do so without asking for the login - hardly a secure system. Good you successfully updated without a hitch, Tomato is a fine choice for a firmware and infinitely better then Linksys' muddled programming efforts.
Yep, if for anything I can't stand looking at that Frankenstein GUI of Linksys firmware, those guys need to have their heads checked. Its layout and graphics are so busy you can't find your way about. I pity poor folks who don't know enough to use alternative firmware.
I suppose people could just use different browser and live with it. Security doesn't much matter for most people at home anyway. I tried to find solution on the net but while number of people posted in the past about the same difficulties, no solution is offered anywhere, that's why I didn't delete my post here.
