Double the price is hardly "a bit more". Basically, you're comparing the retailed box copy to the OEM copy; the OEM copy, which Microsoft sells to system builders to be installed only on new machines, costs a lot less. The OEM version goes for ~$110-120, and for big manufacturers, they get it for substantially less than even that.

You can also save money by buying the upgrade version, which costs $120 CAD or so. Some stores like NewEgg will also sell you an OEM copy directly for about the same price.

still factory windows installed is better than upgrading on an old pc isn't it...what am i missing?

a factory installed windows can onyl be installed and run on that machine, if yu buy it from fri's you can install it on any machine
