When this happens all data stops momentary causing lag in games, slower downloads and drop outs on VOIP. This is a SB5120 DOCSIS 2 modem. Is this just the breaks with DOCSIS 2 or something else? Its starting to bug me and I'm thinking I need a DOCSIS 3 modem to get consistent smooth service in my area.

 | I'm also in OKC, and I can tell you that going to a D3 modem was the best upgrade I made last year. Connection is much more consistent.
I have the DPC3010 and am overall happy with it - I do wish the logs were not restricted so I could see more - but only the Moto's allow this. At the time, the 6120 was the only D3 moto available and it only bonds 4 channels instead of 8. My area only uses 3 right now, but I wanted to be safe for the future. If you can get the newer moto that has 8x4 bonding, I'd go with that, otherwise the DPC3010 is acceptable. |

Its 8x4 and there is still a way to see the modem logs by going to the address directly which is something you couldn't do with the Cisco. You can view the modem log here on the Zoom: »192.168.100.1/RgEventLog.asp
I'm getting quicker speeds off the bat on the Zoom. The Cisco had a slight ramp up time when downloads started before it hit full speed. Signal levels are about 1 to 1.5 db better across the board compared to the DPC3010 which is excellent.
Thanks again for the help. |
