 | reply to MEeastern_ca It's annoying that they have a landing page, so every time you go through the drive thru of any McShits, your smartphone will conk out with no data transfer if it remembered the WiFi network and you haven't agreed to the terms manually. |

 | reply to MEeastern_ca Looking at their corporate website I can't seem to find one. I suspect you have to agree to their terms before you are granted access to the network, I am sure it contains language which allows them to "do anything" they wish.
In the UK they have filters in place and have teamed up with a non-profit group to ensure "family friendly" Internet access. »www.mumsnet.com/family-friendly Last year there was a bit of an uproar in New Zealand after they blocked access to certain websites. »www.abc.net.au/news/2011-01-11/g···/1901084 |

| And if not HTTP, try tunnelling IP over DNS.
A captive portal usually sends a bogus DNS server in the initial DHCP reply for redirecting traffic, however, they may actually pass out UDP port 53 traffic to ANY address.
You could test to use 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 (Google Public DNS) to see if that is the extent of their filtering.
If it works, you can tunnel to a server of your choosing, perhaps one that you operate (..see code.kryo.se/iodine).

 | reply to Thane_Bitter Thanks thane_bitter. I realize they can do what ever they want as its there network but I noticed only once that encrypted google was blocked but functioned afterwards. So I was curious as to if SSL proxy filter was consistent among Mcdonalds. |
