 | OV: Turn off OGM -To page this person press 2- I have OV for my business. One day this week an A/C 646 number kept popping up on caller ID. I didn't answer (numbers that aren't recognized are assumed to be telemarketers) and no voice mail was left. At around 6pm I received a phone text saying "Page from voicemail. Please call me at" followed by the 646 number.
I called the number back and got a generic voice mail message: no indication who this was. I did not leave them a message: I still have no idea who this is.
When I call my own number and listen to the outgoing message, the Optimum prompt "To page this person press 2" comes on. Apparently that's what this 646 caller did.
I looked through the settings in the OV configuration and did not see any place where the "To page this person" option would be turned off. I sent Optimum Business Support an email asking how I could get this feature turned off. After 2 days I got a worthless response saying "Go to OptimumVoice and configure this option."
Sure.
The "Page this person" option is ripe for abuse. I want SMS notification when a voice mail arrives so turning the "SMS Notification off" isn't an option for me. I just don't want to give people the ability to "send me a page."
Anyone have experience with this and/or have any tales to tell about SPAM/Harassment/Abuse of the paging option? |

What I don't want is the ability to have someone effectively send me a text without leaving a voice mail. |

still getting a text either way |

still getting a text either way If they leave a voice mail I know who I am calling back after I listen to their message With a straight text message I have no Idea who texted me. Do you return calls to telemarketers? I surely don't.
Someone who uses the straight text feature (from a number I don't know) is hiding something. CV should not facilitate this. I pay the CV bill after all. |

| reply to Duke So if they left a voicemail that was identical to the text message, you would be happy?
Why not just ignore txt messages like that, just as you don't answer calls from unknown numbers?
If it really bothers you, get on the CV do-not-call list. The 646 number is CV calling/paging/annoying you. If it really, really, REALLY bothers you, just get a different phone provider that has the features you want. -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Not sure how you can say the 646 number is CV calling... 646 is one of the area codes for Manhattan. Could be anyone. |

| Could be - but what are the chances it is another telemarketer calling CV customers from 646 that is also stupid enough not to block the number? -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |

Re: OV: Turn off OGM -To page this person press 2- If it is a CV number, the OP should dial 1-888-425-2088 and add himself to their do not call list. |

People were calling looking for lawyers, doctors, etc. The final straw was when some jackass started calling at like 2am for a few days in a row... the call blocking feature is very nice. I think that got the message through to the people that I am not the person they are looking for. |

If you're interested give me a shout back at 646-555-1212".
I get a SMS that says 646-555-1212 has left me a voice mail. I listen to the "Rachael" message and decide that it's junk. Message deleted. Annoying but it's over. Not a problem.
What Rachael can do now (assuming it was a live caller) is not leave a message but simply press "2" and just enter "646-555-1212". I get a page that says "Page from 646-555-1212").
Now I have no idea who is calling. Do I call the number back?
P.S. A more competent Cablevision rep followed up to my email advising that the "Press 2" option cannot be turned off.
P.P.S. The same 646 number keeps calling with no message left.
Bill collector, Telemarketer, Cablevision sales pitch? I'll never know. |
