 | Choppy FTP connection to shared server environment I got a $7 per month plan on a server and I have a problems with FTP connection. I am trying to upload a 20MB file with multiple folders and files in it and the connection is very choppy and I literally was not able to do that since yesterday. Does anybody knows how this work? Do they just impose some kind of limit on the connection and there is no way to get around that? This is a major obstacle and can get frustrating etc... Thank you. |

 | What FTP client are you using and what is the server using? |
|
 | I've been using Core FTP, and also tried FireFTP (plugin for Firefox). I was told that I could try using FileZilla. The bottom line is that I spend around $75 for 12 months and I am trying to run several low-traffic sites, I would say on a level of 5 Wordpress installations. Does this sound like too much for what I paid for? Just wondering whether I should get out and look somewhere else for hosting. |

 | reply to jtt89 I use to run a FTP server using Filezilla back in the day and had problems with certain people on DSL connections. The transfer rate was all over the map, dropping several 100KBps. The only thing that corrected was fooling around with the "Internal transfer buffer size" and "Socket buffer size" values. See if your server has anything along those lines in its config options.
Another thing, are you able to install something else besides a FTP server? FTP just isn't reliable and secure. SFTP, Secure Shell, is a better alternative and there are plenty of free server programs out there to use. |
