Doing Hard Reset, Will I lose Bridge Mode?

Well this is a simple question. I just stumbeled upon the new Linksys E4200 V2 and fell in love and decided it's time to upgrade the ole' WRT600N. Whenever I swap out routers I always like to do a hard reset on the cable modem by pressing the reset button on the back. Just so I know what to expect, if I press the reset button on the UBee DW3611 will it default back to factory settings and take me out of bridge mode, or will it retain that setting? Just want to know if I should plan on calling tech support to check a setting that I am perfectly capable of checking, but Time Warner doesn't trust me to do so.

Thanks

My best guess is that yes, since all settings are reverted back...you would lose bridge mode. I am not sure what you will gain by resetting the modem though.

In the past, and this is going back years ago. I'd have issues with a new router communicating with the cable modem, if I just simply unhooked the old router and plugged the new one in. Since the router will be brand new, I’d like to reset the cable modem just to freshen up everything. Probably won’t do anything, but it’s just something I do.

Yea, anytime you plug something new into the modem it has to be power cycled so it forces it to look for any new devices. Complete factory reset will do it to I guess. To each their own.

I've had that happen before but with the Motorola 5100(?) modems. Just power cycle the Ubee and you should be good to go. Failing that, DHCP release the IP on the WRT600N, reboot the Ubee, and hook the new router in

You will loose bridge mode but its easy to get it back in bridge mode as long as your market doesn't block access to the router configuration.

»192.168.100.1/TlModeChange.asp use this link to change between NAT and Bridge modes only. If that doesnt work change the 100 to either a 0 or a 1.

I live in one of the markets where TW doesn't trust subscribers with those pages. It's pretty bad when you can't even view your own signal levels. I've tried every trick I could find online to access the GUI but nothing worked. I had access to it when I first got the D3 modem for the first few months, then I lost access.

It’s pretty stupid they lock these things down. How is one supposed to do such basic things such as changing your encryption if need be, creating your own SSID, limiting the number of IPs the DHCP is able to assign and so on and so forth. In some ways I wouldn't mind using that thing as a router, IF I had access to the GUI, if for no other reason to eliminate clutter, but then when I look at the Linksys, it makes me wake up and wonder why I would want to use the piece of junk TW hands out over a $200 state of the art residential router that can be configured any way I want it.

$0 vs $200?

Well, you are over paying for the TW signature service, give your personal concierge a call and have him do it. Will he come out on a Sunday?

Signature Home is not overpriced at all. It is very fairly priced. DirecTV wants $120 for their top TV package now. For $110/month more, I get phone service, 50/5 Wideband, whole house DVR and more HD content. Considering wideband is $100 alone, Signature Home is a great deal all around for those that want more services.

From a support access I am firmly in favor of locking them down. Its impossible to support if someone has been in changed the settings and then forgotten what they did. Yeah you can factory reset it and then change the WPA code on 15 machines, that takes a good hour.
Anyone actually that knows what they are doing has their own router anyway, if you are using the wireless and you have tech ability, you should not!

While I'm reconfiguring things, I might as well clean some things up. I know WNY now has combo DOCSIS 3 Phone modems in the field now and they are handing them out. Can existing subscribers obtain one or are they only for new installs, and can they be picked up at the office? I’ll be driving by Mt Hope 2 or 3 times tomorrow and can swap my two modems for one if I’m able to.

Thanks

The D3 Combo modems were tested recently and I do not believe they are live in the field at this time.
You certainly would not be able to pick one up, it would be an install only option.

They are handing out D3 eMTAs in some markets. You will have to find out from your local office if they have any in the warehouse. I was lucky to get one here in my area. They almost wouldnt give one to me on the grounds that the wireless was faulty but I don't use the builtin router anyway I use my own loaded with DD-WRT firmware on it.
