What's really going on?

Techs on the Windstream account have my info, so please respond here rather than through IMs.

So I've been having problems since early December. It started with ridiculously high packet loss and I was told by the techs on this forum that, worst case scenario, it would be fixed by the beginning/middle of Feburary.

The packet loss was annoying and made games unplayable, but at least my speeds were alright and I was able to browse the web. But lately my speeds have been horrific all hours of the day. I pay for 3 mbps, I'm lucky to get 100-250 kbps and I've seen it as slow as 20 kbps. Pinging Google gives me an average ping of ~330 ms.

Because of the unusually slow speeds I contacted customer support again today and was told that it would be fixed around the middle of March.

So my question is will it really be fixed in March? Or will I then be told it will be fixed by the middle of April?

What troubleshooting has been done on your dsl modem and/or router? There could very well be an issue with either of those devices, so it's worth it to check if you haven't already.

Well, they admit to it being their issue at least. They say it's a "latency outage".

The thing is, it originally started with just the PIN at the DSLAM needing changed.

Then they said,

"When the technicians were working to resolve the issue on your line (since repaired) they determined that the up link feeding the TA5000 (DSLAM) was having issues. So they have since (about halfway done) began to redesign that up-link. Once that is completed you will have no issues anymore. It should be resolved by the beginning to mid February worst case scenario."

Seems like it would have progressively gotten better over time if they were working on it, but maybe not. It's only gotten worse.

Oh, forgot to mention my SNR has been dropping rather low lately. It was 8 last night...

Well this doesn't really help you, but if you are really hooked up to a TA5000, I can say that is a pretty recent and fairly nice piece of equipment, and it sounds like your area has been fairly recently upgraded. At least within the last 3-4 years or so. It could be worse.

On a side note I noticed where you are from and just wanted to note that I was born and grew up in Ashland. So yeah. Anyway good luck.

It could definitely be worse lol, it used to disconnect about every 10 minutes.

That's pretty cool, I saw another person on here from around here, Catlettsburg. And thanks!

Yeah, mine's been messed up since last years as well.
This is unheard of

We need to expose this.
I have no other options, if there was another isp then i would have already changed.

TA5000's are nice units. What ever is feeding it is probably shit and I doubt they will admit fault

Yeah same, my dream is for another ISP to move to this area lol.

It's really just been horrific as long as I've had them as an ISP, which is probably 7+ years.

Yeah this is the worst I've seen out of them so far.
My connection has gone out for a couple of days before.

Nothing like this bs though.

Phone and internet just came back on.

Same issue for me. Windstream tells me the estimated fix is later this year. So in other words they could care less, will take your money and give you veal service.

The target date for your repairs was Mid February. The work is not complete and is scheduled to be resolved by March. Please bear in mind the project is currently under construction, it is not just getting brushed aside. Reworking that up-link is a large job that effect more that one DSLAM and area and does have to performed in a very organized series of steps. On the other hand speeds you post at 2pm on the 2-11 are not primary caused by the latency issue or upgrades. You speeds would be affect like that more in the prime time hours. Those speeds could be a result of line issues, faulty router wireless interference, any number of things. Typically latency outages do not affect the upload in the manner your first post of the thread shows, unless you have something running in the background.

I've been getting speeds this slow all hours of the day, even during off hours as late as 3 am, for the last few days. Tried it from different computers, via wireless and wired, no improvement. Nothing running in the background.

I suggest that you contact WS Customer Service and get over to their retention group. I started having issues again in January and no resolution is expected until around April/May. I went through the same thing last year and it took from April until October to do the "upgrades". I had great service for a good three months before the saturation returned again.

Anyway, the rep gave me full credit retroactively to January for my 12meg DSL service and full credit for future service to May 1st. So, I am paying ZERO while the issue is ongoing. She stated that if it was not resolved by May 1st then call back.

I was not ugly, but very blunt that I can only get 2-3meg on an average evening- Not enough to stream a full HD movie from VUDU. I'm not sure who does the WS capacity planning, but they obviously cannot forecast any growth.

They are supposed to be crediting my bill, but who knows.

A tech was scheduled to come to day, but (as I anticipated) he never showed up. That makes 3 times a tech has been scheduled to come here yet never did.

Speeds are better, but still getting 10%+ packet loss again.

Mine was fine for about 2 days.

I guess I'll have to talk to them about my our bill as well, or get a lawyer.
