 | Videotron Home Phone with internet from second provider I'm trying to figure out if I can have Videotron Home Phone service to replace my Bell phone line and subscribe to cable internet from any of the Cable Internet resellers like Ebox, Acanac, Velcom. For what it's worth I am not interested in bundling Videotron Home Phone with their Internet offering. I prefer to keep my phone and internet bills separate.
Thanks! |

| reply to in_mtl Someone will confirm this, but you will need 2 separate modems, one provided by videotron for the phone service and one provided by your ISP for internet.
You need to inquire if having 2 services at same address will cause a problem. Videotron is picky about that. |

| reply to in_mtl true, you will need to videotron modem for the phone (they supply it for free). You need a seperate modem even if you would have had videotron for internet as well.
Once my installation snafu gets resolved on monday then I will have Videotron phone with Ebox internet.
I haven't had videotron for my internet for a while now, I can't see why they would ever complain and risk losing a sub to any of their services |

 | reply to in_mtl For some reason Distributel won't let you have videotron home phone along with their cable internet.
What I wonder is what will happen if I have digital cable TV and phone from videotron + Ebox on top of all that. A third cable into my house? |

 | reply to in_mtl Videotron tech will install a splitter so you can both connect your cable modem (for internet with electronic box) and the cable modem supplied by videotron (the arris one for voip with videotron).
There is no problem at all. |

 | reply to in_mtl Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm going to give it a shot! Next issue is trying to minimize internet down time as I switch from Bell phone / Teksavvy DSL to Videotron / Ebox. When Videotron comes to install the cable for home phone do the connect to the existing demarcation? If so, I presume the DSL will get cut and I'll be without internet until the new cable Internet service is installed. Any tips for coordinating this switch |

Any tips for coordinating this switch Most times when having a new telephone service installed from Videotron they isolate the inside wiring to be able to use your wall jacks with your service. It is possible to simply connect your telephone directly to the Aris modem, but that will only be for 1 phone.
If you are planning on keeping the DSL as a backup for a day or two, may be simpler in your case to have Cable Internet installed first, potentially a few days before the end of the DSL/POTS telephone service, and then have Cable telephony installed.
That way you can still benefit form having your wall jacks active without having a day or two with no DSL. |
