@sbcglobal.net

My computer blu ray player reads all my PS3 games (16)

I found that as a surprise earlier today. I am just copying the .png's to use as wallpaper. And some behind the scene movies.

And I just recently bought this blu ray writer/reader too.

Can I copy the discs to my computer to back it up?

Thanks.

Legally? No. Without special software? No. There are programs out there that will allow you to copy blu-ray movies so I assume they also work on games.

@sbcglobal.net

I am backing up a game with the software that came with the blu ray reader/writer... can it be that easy?

I am seriously confused... even movies cannot be copied unless you use special software to crack.

If I burn the backed up game to a blu ray disk, will I be able to play it on my ps3? Sounds crazy...

no, you won't be able to play the burned games on your PS3. It's no different than the PS1 using plain old CD-ROM discs and the PS2 using play old CD-ROM (rare) and DVD-ROM discs.

Nintendo has used "special" disc formats for the GameCube and Wii (not sure about the XBoxes) which can't be read by normal drives, but the discs on Sony systems definitely contain extra data which can't be copied.

I remember using my PS3 to listen to music CDs... good ol days.

I'm curious about something though. And bare with me here cuz this might a really ridiculous question.....

You say your blu-ray drive on ur PC can read your PS3 games. Can you play any of them on your PC? Or is it just reading them?

I get the backing up part and I'm not going to discuss here whether thats legal/illegal, moral or not. Thats not of my concern. Just curious if youre able to play the games on your PC or not.

No, no way. The best of the best of PS2 emulators is just now coming to fruition.

Its going to be a while unless there is some real money and talent thrown at making a PS3 emulator.

Wrong, it falls under fair use. You can legally copy your own game as long as you already own an original.

But you have to the mod your PS3 and get software that can crack the copy protection, which is a legal gray area.
