Streaming DVD collection to TV

I apologize if this has already been answered, or if this is posted in the wrong thread.

I have a few hundred DVD's that are housed inside a huge DVD case. I want to rip those DVD's onto a NAS, or media center pc, and stream them to my television.

I have no idea how to do this. I currently have a NAS drive connected to my network that steams to my XBOX.

What is the best way to go about this? Is there a way to stream DVD's without losing too much quality? Yes, I know that copying DVD's in this way may be considered "breaking the law." What software is good for this sort of ripping (ignoring copy right restrictions) ... preferably free.

Keep in mind that I am about to buy a new television. I am thinking Samsung, within a $800- $1300 range. Am I able to connect a device directly to the TV and stream DVD's, or do I need an intermediary device. Also, I am willing to buy a new computer, server, or NAS if necessary.

Note: This is a re-post. My original was posted in the Home Improvement board. Sorry, I'm new.

Get a TV with USB input that supports media file playback (ie: Divx, avi, mpg mkv, etc.). You can then RIP the DVD's, put a copy onto an external HDD, connect it to the TV, and use the TV to read and play the files. Or you can get a media playback device (ie: Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player ), and use the player (or your XBox for that matter) to play the files. The TV is just an easier option.

As for the files, you will need to RIP the disc, and then convert into a format supported by your playback device.
