Ontario IPTV Services?Looking to get tv, usenet has been great and all but wouldn't mind paying for an IPTV service available in Mississauga, ON. Would be great if TSI got into the market but in the mean time any suggestions, google hasn't provided me much answers, wish Telus would bring Optik TV to us as I love the xbox live implementation but I'll just continue to utilize usenet if there are no options as I'll never sub to Rogers digital tv or Bell Expressvu Sat. |

I doubt Bell's going to open their FibeTV service up to resellers any time soon. You may end up having to order that service (either replacing your TekSavvy, or on a dry loop) if you want IPTV. There are some Internet-based broadcasters you can try signing up for, but none of them will give you the same picture quality, because they're all throttled for bandwidth over the Internet. |

At $22/Mbps and 3Mbps to provide decent stream quality at 720p, doing IPTV over Bell GAS/AHSSPI can quickly become an expensive proposition since most people watch TV during prime time which overlaps peak hours for internet. |

Fibe TV isn't a good option if you have internet through TSI. Bell requires that anyone signing up for Fibe TV also sign up for a bundled internet service as well. |

ya that's not an option, I'll stick to grabbing stuff off usenet. It does suck tho, we've got options (even if limited) for cellular service, landline service, and internet service, but they still got a monopoly on tv services, can't wait for competition in the future. |

If you aren't getting a *better* experience using usenet then you are doing something wrong.
I just got Telus Optik tv (for my tenants, primarily) and it rocks as a PVR. But it still does not come close to REAL media center software such as XBMC. They have finally implemented such basic things as "remove channels from guide that Im not subscribed to". Only took them about 15 years to do it, so I figure in about 10 more years they might approach the quality level of something you can build for yourself. |

I have a usenet (supernews) . I also use project free tv.
In the time it takes me to buffer one show, I can download 4 hours of shows.
I like the web-service because the idea that I can sample new shows, that I just don't know about.
It is currently saying that my web-site has a drive-by download. |

Project Free TV looked at it, you know its easier to do "that" with XBMC & Canadian On Demand plugin? Yeah works out great for me. Except for the CityTV & Showcase which seems to use a modified streaming engine the CoD person didn't get fixed up, I'm hoping to find someone at XBMC who can fix the plug in and add a few other tweaks like subtitle synching. |

They (broadcasters) are not throttled, [some] customers are. IMO that's a non issue. There are other market dynamics at play. |

What I wonder is if you were to order 25/7 from a 3rd party and than Fibe 6 and FibeTV from Bell and than use the Bell modem on the 3rd party line with the 3rd party internet login if the FibeTV would still function properly seeing as FibeTV is on different VLAN. |

Probably, but there'd be no advantage to doing that instead of on the Fibe 6 line. For that matter, it'd be cheaper to get the 2 meg service for Fibe TV. |

CIK Telecom advertises IPTV for the GTA, first I've heard of it: » www.ciktel.com/Main/Eng/ ··· ndex.aspThey also advertise 50mbit/s cable for the GTA. I asked the Canadian Broadband forum about them the other day, but nobody seems to know anything: » CIK Telecom advertising GTA cable service |

I think there was a post from someone who tried this about a week ago that said the IPTV PPPoE login fails to authenticate on his other line, which would indicate that Bell does port-wise access control on the DSLAM to prevent people from using FibeTV on lines that are not associated with a FibeTV account. |

I gave up waiting for CoD to fix their streams... besides, if I'm the only one who wants to watch a stream, there's not really any advantage over watching it on the TV versus watching it on the 13" laptop... a 13" laptop 2 feet from my face takes up the same viewing area as a 42" TV from 10 feet away, and I don't disturb anybody by watching with the headphones.
Also, there's other streams that don't work right if you're using Linux with XBMC.... but the stupid thing is, they all work perfectly well if you use a Linux-based computer to go to the website and stream using their built-in player. Even Showcase and Space (though with Sanctuary and Eureka not having any episodes for weeks, I'm losing any desire to keep watching Space). |

It's a cancer that needs to be eradicated. |
