| [FP-Ops] Hardware Heads-up The CPU fan in F2B2 started growling this morning, so I opened up the machine to dust it out and see about replacing the fan (I did get it replaced). The caps on the motherboard are starting to swell a bit, so we might want to start thinking about replacing it.
If anyone finds any good deals on a quad-core (or more) MB, CPU, and RAM, let me know, and I'll pick them up as soon as I can afford it (no case needed, as it's already in a 2U rack mount case)
So far, everything is running OK, but when it starts doing that, we're on borrowed time.

| Hint: We never intended for our FP Ops to pay for replacement blades or computers or parts.
Once a decision is made about what to do for a failing unit (not sure of the process there) and determination of available funds, you are supposed to be reimbursed for such expenditures.
Maybe a board ossifer can explain how this is done?

UPS shows estimated arrival on Wednesday. Depending on what time UPS shows up, I'll change the hardware out on either Wednesday or Thursday.
I'll put the other board aside until we decide what to do with it. |

F2B5 (Intel Quad Core 2.4GHz in a generic mini-tower case) is now online and crunching. (The big quad-core CPU won't fit in the 2U case. parkut sent an Intel dual-core board, CPU, and RAM as well, and it will go in F2B2's case tomorrow (my back is killing me right now)

F2B2 has its' new motherboard, and is now back online (no pictures... swearing might be apparent in them...)
Everything is done, and I'm gonna eat dinner! YAY!
EDIT: And according to /proc/cpuinfo, it's got an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66GHz CPU in it... I thought it was a dual core... |
