[Line Problem] Alcatel 1000 getting old/new neighbors affecting

Not sure if it is the modem or actually a line problem. But I am getting lots of disconnects. This morning I have disconnected over 5 times in a 2 hour stretch. I have to go into the garage to power on / off the Alcatel when it drops.

I ran a line test and here are the results.

Unfortunately I have an older modem Alcatel 1000. It has served us well the past 12 years. Currently I am getting ~5meg down and 600k upload according to speedtest.net.
I am on the 6meg down plan.

Only thing I have notice when I have these dropped connections is when a new wifi connection appears in my selectable list of wifi. In the past 2 months, I have seen 5 new wifi connections.
Can new users coming online with DSL affect my DSL connectivity?

Thanks.

Yikes! Im surprised that you still have it. Yeah, if more users on the network will make your internet slow. Did you set it as public or it have password on it?

My issue is that I am losing connection alot. Speed is pretty decent when the connection is solid.
My wifi signal is set to non broadcast and there is a password on it.

Any recommendations on a replacement dsl modem?

yes, I recommend Motorola 3347 or Netgear Model 7550. It is more reliable than 2Wire/Pace. Netgear Model 7550 have Wireless N if you want stronger signal in your house. Both modems cost $100 each. If you want cheaper one, then I suggest $25 Netgear N300 with dsl modem built-in. »www.beachcamera.com/shop/product···GN2200RF

A Speedstream 4100 or 4100b off of eBay or where ever you can get one would be a good replacement as long as the previous owner didn't attempt to hack into the firmware.

Actually it wouldn't hurt to have a second known working modem for swap out testing if something should go bad with either your line or your primary modem.

You don't want to invest a lot of money into replacement modems, in case AT&T decides to convert your line to ADSL2+ which requires another flavor of modem authentication to make the PPPoE connection.

The Pace 4111N is out now and also available on the ATT eStore. The folks I know with it are happy with it..
