And yet, here you are posting about it in the AT&E SE forum.

It will work anywhere on the AT&T network where there is standard ATM based aDSL service, all you need to do is change the VCI/VPI to 8/35 for the former BellSouth area.

U-verse HSI is also aDSL. The difference is that U-verse HSI uses IPDSLAM instead of ATM. But, you are right in that the modem you posted is not a U-verse IPDSLAM model.

That's all a matter of default settings and firmware. In theory, you should be able to load the correct region's firmware on the thing and be on your way -- even the -att IPDSLAM firmware if you can find it. If it's like the old Westell 6100's, you cannot get past the pppoe settings page to change, well, anything until it's connected once. If you're in the wrong region, you'll never be able to get it to connect.

Many people would say $8 is still too much. They're well known for overheating and burning out rather quickly.

why are we even paying attention to his threads?

he's the guy that won't ever be satisfied with his connection wherever he goes...

I bet you, we'll be seeing him in the Comcast forums complaining about caps and or not enough speed. Then he'll go back to AT&T, then....and the cycle goes on...

Because otherwise, some new visitor might be mislead by misinformation. I would have corrected that post regardless of the identity of the poster.

No doubt about that at all.
