BBR Gaming League

I was thinking over the weekend that we should form some kind of official gamer league that goes beyond a single game or genre. Some of us are MMO'ers, RPG'ers, FPS'ers, and/or RTS'ers.

I was thinking that some times, a game gets stale, but not just the game, but the genre itself and it would be nice if the group of players that played together here could move on collectively.

So, I thought about trying to formalize our group into something a little more organized. You're free, obviously, to play whatever you want, but the game of the month/quarter/year is X.

Perhaps we could host a ventrillo server for people to hop on, rather than just skyping people to set up a game.

Thoughts?

What's wrong with skype? It's free and I can check my phone if we are out to tell people when we'll be home :P

I am up for it, like i said in another thread playing even a bad game can be fun just by playing it with friends.

And: I don't know how good skype is when you get 10+ on the same call or if the master call drops having to reform.

Count me in.

I figure just posting here puts us in the BBR Gamer League, but doing something formal might be nice. I don't hop from game to game very often due to my limited gaming budget, but might if the right one comes up. I agree with Ant about vent. I never had a problem with skype, and it be free.

Is there a way to set up a Skype conference room that people can freely join? As of now, we have to phone people individually.

And that's something I was thinking about. I don't think people want to be dropping $100/month on new games just to keep up with folks, but I think some people get tired of the same stuff. I think most of us are still heavily addicted to LoL and I'm guessing the next big game will be D3, but how long until that gets stale? How do we coordinate making sure that all the D3 folks can hang out in the same place and BS with each other and play together?

That's what I want to do. And then after D3? Then what? Maybe, we can put it up to a vote then.

I mean, we're all here. So just like what's happening now with the D3 beta, a thread has been made and the same folks are chiming in. I'm even thinking about getting it so I can play with you guys. There's no guarantee, even with an official group, that everyone will migrate to a game. But I think most of the core people will do it naturally. It's not like it's a secret what the next game is going to be, with all the hype in here.

Yep,

I know people like Skype, but I like the old days of Vent where you could just hop on and BS with folks. With Skype, people could be on and wanting to hang out for the evening, but if they aren't a part of the game, they aren't on the call.

I just remember the old-school WoW days where we had a Vent server and people would hop on and BS even before we did any 5-mans or raids.

Does anyone know of a way to set up an open conference line in Skype?

I don't know if you can set up a conference in skype or not. It looks like you have to upgrade to some business model that costs money in order to do it. If that's the case, might as well go tried and true with vent. We just have to pony up some dough.

We could probably just mooch off drew's vent.

Should check out Mumble over Ventrillo if you go that route. Had a mumble server when i was still raiding and it was easier to use/modify and had less lag.

Guess that means we'd also have to let him play.

Drew is the rich kid that plays one game a season so that the team can afford to play at all.

I agree the old days of ventrillo were great. I don't even want to speculate at how many hours I've spent just shooting the shit over vent with fellow clan mates (Counter Strike days) or guild mates (WoW)

Even if you were doing completely different things, being in a channel all together and just chatting was great.

I've always preferred vent over skype because you can CHOOSE when to talk and when not to talk without having to press the hard line mute on your microphone/headset. Just sucks that it has a slight delay but you get used to it.

totally down for the BBR league, and for ventrillo, just because I'm fine with shooting the shit with people but I hate interrupting people when they are playign with a phone call, etc.

Probably. I am leaning towards cancelling Tera mostly because of the fractured mechanics, but also the sub model, the exaggerated anime sexuality, and the influx of hormonal teenagers that will probably bring. We'll see if things shape up over the next couple months prior to release.
