It's more offensive to men. I clearly saw two dicks in season 1 and no vaginas. I'm offended.
Aside from what ya'll are talking about, GoT is also a very violent bloody show that starts off in episode 1 with a beheading. It's a gritty and violent medieval type of environment. I would NEVER expect many women would get into this show because of that alone.
A friend of mine at work ordered a couple of GoT t-shirts (one of Eddard and one of Danerys). When they came in he wore the one with Eddard Stark to go run some errands (same exact one as in the picture I attached).
He told me he first went into a Walgreens to pick up a prescription. The Pharmacy tech girl apparently got all excited when she saw the t-shirt and they talked about the show. She was a total fan of the show. As he was out running errands, that happened with 3 other women. I don't think he leaves the house without that shirt on now LOL.
So if any of you dudes are single... Lord Eddard might hook you up. |

Some of the smartest, most brave, most ruthless, and most powerful characters in this series are women. If you mean there are a lot of naked people screwing...well can't argue with that. But my woman watches it right next to me.
Anyway I bought the Season 1 blu ray set and it's great. The picture and sound are phenomenal, the extras go into detail to explain every house, character, land, and backstory. Love it. Of course I've read all the books twice and only deleted season 1 off my dvr when the blu rays released so I may be a little biased...lol
Here's a link. I got it from Amazon for $35 pre-ordered but looks like the price has gone up a tad. Regular price is around $80 so it's still a good deal.

RenoPremium join:2008-10-26 Keller, TX | On Sunday in a Walmart I saw a display of the GoT season 1 BluRary. Considering what's in it, I was shocked to see it out in the open in Walmart. I mean this is a company that has censord violent and graphic video games as well as music.
The other interesting thing was all the copies were sold out, and in their book section the GoT paperback had a big section and lots of copies - more area devoted to it by far than any other book. |

RenoPremium join:2008-10-26 Keller, TX | For anyone that's read the first 3 books at least.
Man, books 1-3 are a freaking meat grinder (depressing). Worse than Ned's beheading will be Winterfell falling and then burning, bran & rikkens heads seen mounted on the gate of Winterfell and the worst of the worst will be the Red Wedding. To me, books 1-3 were a beat down of the good guys and not 1 single main 'evil' guy dies until book 4. I've been thinking for people watching the show and not reading the books, this book 1-3 beat down is going to last two and a half years until season 4 is in swing and we get a little relief.
Those big things coming - it's the kind of gut twisting tv moments that people will be talking about at the watercooler the next day. |

| reply to Reno I finished book two the other day and wait for the day to see season two. But I have to admit one thing. At one point in book two, something happened that almost caused me to stop reading the book and the series. I won't say what happened but it was probably the first time (that I recall) that I have ever felt that way about a book. Anyone else that has read the book might know what I am talking about. I actually stopped and had to reread the page a couple of times. I was ticked. But I am glad I kept reading the book. Now I am on to book 3. -- Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war |

I actually stopped and had to reread the page a couple of times. I was ticked. But I am glad I kept reading the book. Now I am on to book 3. You should have put it in spoiler tags. I'd can only guess you're talking about either: A: Winterfell falling to Theon and then being burned by bastard Bolton -or- B: Bran and Rickon's heads being mounted on the gate of Winterfell
Although by the end of book 2 it is revealed that option B was only deception .
----
If one of those 2 things is what you're talking about, you're in for a shock. An event in book 3 is by far worse than anything that happens in all 5 books: The Red Wedding . When I read through that part in book 3 it felt like someone had stuck a knife in my gut and twisted it. I personally enjoy the fact that this is a harsh "realistic" world where the good guys don't always win.
My other tips would be: A: In this story, NEVER EVER trust that someone is dead unless you 'see' the body - and I mean a POV character clearly sees the body or that character die. B: Even if someone dies, by book 5 there are two instances where the dead are brought back to life C: Books 1 through 3 are a beat down. The 'good' side doesn't receive any 'justice' at all until book 4. |

| Reno, I didn't put it in spoilers because I didn't reveal anything about the instance. But I will say it was one of your two guesses.
So far I have restrained myself from looking at your other spoiler for book three. As I said I am reading that now.
Though the most annoying thing about reading the books is when something happens, you don't necessary find out the outcome or get an explaination until several chapters later. -- Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war |

Sunday Night is Coming.
I plan to re-read the books yet again in the near future. Nothing in the books made me want to stop reading, although I recall a few nasty texts from friends that I got into the series when they reached certain parts.
Read this excerpt from a Cracked article the other day, and found it humurously true.

5 Ways Modern Men Are Trained to Hate Women (I linked the 2nd page, as that's where the below quote is)
said by David Wong : Right now I'm reading a book from mega-selling fantasy author George R. R. Martin. The following is a passage where he is writing from the point of view of a woman -- always a tough thing for men to do. The girl is on her way to a key confrontation, and the narrator describes it thusly:
"When she went to the stables, she wore faded sandsilk pants and woven grass sandals. Her small breasts moved freely beneath a painted Dothraki vest ..."
That's written from the woman's point of view. Yes, when a male writes a female, he assumes that she spends every moment thinking about the size of her breasts and what they are doing. "Janet walked her boobs across the city square. 'I can see them staring at my boobs,' she thought, boobily." He assumes that women are thinking of themselves the same way we think of them.
