[WIN7] What services should be disabled?

In MSCONFIG, are there some services that ought to be disabled or modified to free up CPU & RAM?

Win 7

You need to post screenshots so people will know what is running and what is not!

Are you talking about 3rd party services, native Microsoft services or both?

I came to say the same thing but also remember that if you aren't sure about a setting don't change it.

As already stated, are you talking about 'startup items' in MSCONFIG from Microsoft and/or 3rd party apps?
Or, the vast number of actual Windows 7 *Services*?

Try Gamebooster.

With the click of a button it will turn off all services not needed for gaming.

I use it on my home office and gaming PC.

You can just click restore if something stops working like printing or manually start the services you need.

As you have seen you will get a variety of answers.
There is no One Size Fits All solution. Turn of the services you don't need. Wireless config if you're not using Wireless, Indexing service as Windows search sucks and no other Good search program uses it.

The rest is up to you.

As always make/create a NEW image of you system drive before you start so if you screw something up you can reload that image.

I've known about that for years. I should have said that I wasn't planning on getting into it in that level of detail.

What I should have asked is if there's an 80/20 rule in disabling services. That is, are there 5 or 10 well-known but little-used services that are running by default, use up ample resources, and really aren't needed to be running at all times? (would they be reactivated if a certain app needed them?)

Thanks. I'm not using the PC for gaming.

It was made for gaming but it doesn't just apply to gaming.

I used it to disable unneeded services on my regular PC.

I had to enable print spooler but that was it.

+2......I've asked this question many times, have played around with disabling services, and only caused problems for myself. IMO, dave is 100% correct.
