 | 15Mpbs/Speedtouch to 25Mbps/Actiontech Hello
Location: Richmond Only Internet Speedteest
14.12 Down 0.78 Up
I am currently content with my telus speed, get around 1.5mbps on utorrent an around 3MBPS on VPN Router for Netflix
I decded to upgrade to 25MBPS, the rep tried to put me on the profile with my current speedtouch router ( which I like ) but didnt work and it could be coz she said I don't have POTS filter
Now, 1) Will speedtouch work with 25MBPS? 2) Am I doing a blunder by going towards 25MBPS with Actiontech ( I can't forget the horrible 2Wire Modem ) 3) Will the POTS filter ruin/slow down what I have 4) Opinion on Actiontech in Richmond for 25MBPS |
|
 | 1) No the Speedtouch is not compatible with 25mbps. Some sales agents don't bother reading the info available to them that says only the Actiontec is for 25. (Soon there will be a new gateway for ADSL ONLY customers) 2) Depends. If you can live with an all in one gateway then it's something to consider. 3) No. POTS splitters are beneficial |

Do I have to use it as my main router too? I have Netgear N700 and Tomato WRT54GL conneced via switch to Speedtouch at this time.. I will be able to still use that setting right? ie., use Actiontech as a modem only
So Actiontech is not a troublemaker right |

I presume you're referring to the 2Wire 2700HG-E. . In my rural area, I've found that the (ADSL) 2700HG-E and the SpeedTouch 516 are on a par with one another in respect of download performance, but the Actiontech v1000 (VDSL) was extremely poor. As I understand it from comments on this forum, the DSLAM unit has a lot to do with modem/gateway performance. |

If you want to use your own routers behind the Actiontec it will cause problems (double NAT, double firewall etc) and will increase your latency also. If you want to keep using your own routers, stick with the speedtouch if you can live with the 15mbps connection. |

 | Oh man, that's sad so I have no other option? I have to use telus actiontec only |
|
 | Hello
Can someone confirm? I have no option left? I was told my rep that I could buy my own modem..What do I buy? |
|
 | Current option is Actiontec if you choose 25mbps. If you buy your own modem (extremely rare to find a stand alone VDSL modem being manufactured, let alone to the specific network specs Telus uses) there is no guarantee it will work with Telus' network. |
|
 | I see, thanx for the reply..just want to confirm that this setting WONT work if I replace Speedtouch with Actiontec
Currently I have

Telus used to offer a very nice VDSL2 modem-only (cellpipe) but in their infinite wisdom decided to discontinue its availability. It's unfortunately pretty tough to get a hold of otherwise, as are any other *good* VDSL2 modems known to work well with telus' hardware... |
|
 | Thanks for your reply, any other makes/model you can suggest?
I can check ebay etc |

That guy said he was buying 10 zyxels to use on Telus, but I don't know what happened with them. |

 | reply to Wizin Please just place your router on DMZ on the Actiontech router. If you have IPTV just connect them to the Actiontech. I got that and no latency issues. Speed is as good as you currently have and better. |

siberx4Bandwidth hog join:2004-10-19 West Vancouver, BC | Various services don't work right through two NATs even when DMZ'ed through the first one; you may or may not find this to be a problem depending on your application.
Watch out if you're looking for the Cellpipe 7130 online, as there's more than one version - some of the ones used on other networks use a much inferior and older chipset than the Broadcom one used in telus' version. |
