Bill C-30. Big Brother is here.

First, I'm completely shocked that the most intrusive legislation that is about to be passed in the history of this country does not even have a devoted thread to it.

For those in the dark about this, here is an excellent summary of what we are going to be living with from now on.

The USA has had this very same legislation in place since ~2005 (correct me if I'm mistaken). This legislation, no doubt, is directly the result of pressure from the USA government over the last few years.

If you have any interest in understanding what is going to happen, I would, as a teaser, suggest you view this PBS Frontline documentary. Pay special attention to Chapter 3. That is what will be happening here in Canada; specifically, in the West at Telus and Shaw in Calgary, and Bell and Rogers in Toronto.

Your government will soon have the power to read all of your emails, and essentially have a mirror of every single internet connection you make - all without a warrant. That's called spying.

~40% of eligable voters cast a vote for Harper in the last election. Give yourselves a round of applause.

Its actually allready being 'covered' in other threads on this board. What did you think the Spying bill thing was?

What a great, narrow-minded and spiteful comment on something that should get as much exposure as possible in every possible way and form.

The very fact someone would create his own post about it should be enough to understand that the overwhelming opposition to this bill is not organized by some left-wing lobby but it comes directly from the people themselves.

Its time Right Wing nut jobs such as the Conservatives protected public interest and not the interests of people with a Hard on for eroding freedoms and privacy .

I sent an email to my conservative MP about this and C-11. His office's response: give us your address so we can reply to you personally by mail!

Not sure if responds from your MP would have any results. Might need to send them a "dummy guide (TM)" to the internet too.

Better yet send them the books for the CCNA certification exams and send them a test to complete . the answers you get back should let you know how tech smart they are.

@teksavvy.com

I think they haven't figure out how to copy & paste their word document reply into email yet, so CCNA is "Another 10 years away(TM)".

There is a campaign on twitter to send message to Vic Toews. If he wants to know all about our lifes, he might as well know ALL about it.

Here is a cute tweet:
EmperorStephenHarper

Dear Mr. @ToewsVic Because we love you, I am asking every Canadian to fax you their grocery list at 613-995-1049 #TellVicEverything #Toews

you can send a tweet with mundane information about yourself to @ToewsVic with the #TellVicEverything hash tag.

I told Vic I was so fascinated by the science behind thermonuclear devices, I could probably build one myself! KABOOM!

There is a liberal campaign against this bill. You may want to support it.

May be I can redirect my VoIP CID blacklisted calls to Vic Toews. When I am busy and can't answer the phone, may be I'll let the CSIS guy to take a message for me.

Oh the irony. We are sending in our names and email addresses to an electronic petition list to protest a law that let them collect our names and email addresses among other things?

In another thread, someone had a very interesting idea that I feel has considerable merit. For now, might C-30 be smokescreen diversion, so that Bill C-11 can be quietly rammed down our throats (or up our A..)?

Think about it. Whilst C-30 is getting headlines, meanwhile, on the C-11 front:

"The Bill C-11 committee reviewing the copyright reform bill met for the first time yesterday and set out a fast-paced plan to conclude review of the bill. The committee will meet for 12 hours per week - four times a week for three hours each - until mid-March. It will then move to clause-by-clause review of the bill, which will conclude by the end of the month."

Consider: with C-30 taking up all the headlines, this draconian copyright bill is now flying under the radar, and not receiving the analysis that it should.

In chess, one calls it a "sacrifice". Harpoon and his goons is screwing us yet again (still?).

So get up and let it never become a law !

The "Everyone is a Pedobear" law has far greater legal and real life implications than the copyright law.

Remember the tweet that one businessman send to his colleagues about "blowing away" the competition in a trade show. Now that means he could have been in trouble even when that was in a private email. English is such an interesting language with overloaded words and the meaning can be totally different based on a preposition. In this case it is "up" vs "away".

Even when this version of the law is overturned, your information is given to a political party. Remember that you volunteered the information, so it is no longer private info.

I'll stick to snail mail and face to face meetings for dealing with politicians.
