Here I thought Corsairs were decent PSU's. I wonder what the was the reason it went poof, you did have surge protection on it correct?

I would personally go with either the Seasonic or the Corsair.

Is it within the warranty period? RMA it.

Isn't that obvious? Not all Corsair power supplies are created equal and some are just average/crap units that people are willing to pay more than what they are really worth. The TX series totally suck in my book. They seem to have a pretty high failure rate and they also have compatibility issues with some video cards (inability to power them up during POST).

They have a five year warranty. Did you buy it in Jan/Feb?

I haven't bought a PSU since the Core Duo days, so I wouldn't know.

Ooooh man that really sucks. Right outside the five-year window. You should write them a really nice letter saying how much you love their PSUs and how it died at 5 yr 1 mo and see if they send anything.

Try an RMA. Corsair just might accept it. You have nothing to lose.

I've had 3 Antecs and 1 top of the line Enermax fail on me, so even "good" brands fail.

Of course, the power feeding your home could be dirty too. After having so many power supply units fail on me over 5 years where I lived, I asked the power company to come out and check the service drop. They re-did the terminations at the pole and after that I had no more units fail on me, coincidentally.

Power companies can even use special timed meters that record the AC signal over 24 hours or more, though I don't think your experience warrants that.

The most important thing about a good quality unit is when it fails, hopefully it doesn't take the rest of the system with it.

I think both are overkill really. I would go with the Corsair just because it has a better brand reputation, but the Cooler Master is decently rated.

I wouldn't mind selling you the AX1200 I have (still sealed) for $200 but you are in the states so shipping would totally kill the deal.

Canada, shipping is at least $30-40 which makes the price on newegg very decent.

sorry for all the questions I have not bought a PSU in 5 years.
The person who I built a system for today already had a corsair ax850 I installed for him a few months ago. I want one but dont have the cash flow for one of those.

The AX series isn't all that great. I have encountered more DoAs than I would like for a flag ship SKU from Corsair but the completely modular feature makes up for any defects the AX series have. If the thing fails, just unplug the cables and swap it out. No need to redo the cable management etc. It's clean and easy to maintain.

As for a choice between the HX1050 and the CoolerMaster. You have to ask yourself the following question:
Is the extra 2 year warranty and more quiet fan at full load worth the extra $60?

I chatted with Kyle Bennett over at [H] for a while this morning about the latest and greatest crop and power supply's. he told me to get a Antec 900 watt PSU. And skip the corsair. What it seems to me like corsair is slipping in the QC dept.

Here is the one Kyle told me to get.

No, I would not get that one. I had more than one that buzzed at 40% load. Pick something else or go with the CoolerMaster or the Corsair

Don't overlook the XFX PSU.

If it's still like the original version, it's really a SeaSonic and has gotten favorable reviews...also, as long as you're happy with 850W.

I'm running the original version (with the ugly green fan - but no big deal for me since I have an Antec 300 case) and happy with it.
