 | [DSL] Am I being throttled? (SLPPP) I have TekSavvy 5M/800K DSL service with the MLPPP option, and I'm connected using SLPPP with a Speedtouch 516 modem and WRT54GL modem with Tomato/MLPPP 1.19.
Last week, I was only getting about 2M down and 0.5 up (from Speedtest.net) and 100kbps for BT traffic so I called TekSavvy. They said that apparently Bell was limiting my profile to 2.5M/500k to "make my connection more stable" or something, and said they'd file a ticket with Bell to get it raised.
Since then, my speeds have improved slightly. I'm getting 2.5M down and 0.5 up on Speedtest, and BT download goes up to 300kbps. Still, this seems a lot lower than what I should be getting. And the fact that my torrent traffic can't seem to get above 300kbps seems kinda suspicious.
So I have a few questions:
1. I've heard that there is something you can do in Windows 7 to set up SLPPP and prevent throttling or something. Is there a guide for this somewhere?
2. I'd be interested in setting up multi-line MLPPP, but only one of my phone lines seems to be active. Do I need to pay to have the other one activated, and if so, who do I contact? I currently don't have any phone service, just dry-loop DSL from TekSavvy.
3. Is there anything I can do about my speeds still being capped at 2.5M/500k? I find it a bit frightening that Bell can just decide to change my profile speeds without letting me know, and TekSavvy doesn't seem to have any control over that. Should I just keep calling TekSavvy tech support and getting them to file tickets with Bell until I can get the 5M/800k that I'm paying for? | | dillyhammerA. Good. | It could be you were on a remote and were put back in to the CO by B#ell. Lots of storys about this happening.
Do you know if your location qualifies for any of the services above 6m? You can give TSI a call.
Upgrading your service to 12/1 or 16/1, for example, would put you back in the remote. Since throttling is ending come March 1, that would mean your MLPPP option was no longer needed.
