Behold! the Mighty Soldering Iron!

So, I bought a nice little 16GB key chain thumb drive at Wally World.

Well, after several times in and out of my pocket under stress the 'axle' that the thing swings on broke on one side.

I broke the other side trying to take it apart so now I have a thumb drive with no protector and a useless key chain protector right?

Wrong.

Enter the Weller BP860MP!

This little battery powered iron saved the day with the help of a broken syringe and some Yankee ingenuity.

Basically I had the end of the syringe plunger that you press on.

I inserted it into the thumb drive/protector pivot hole and placed on a flat surface.

Then I melted the other end over the pivot point.

I touched up the white plastic with a sharpie.

I have attached pics for your viewing pleasure.

When it inevitably breaks in the future I can do it again.

I wish there was a glue that worked with all types of plastics and worked well.

I've tried the soldering iron/melt trick before, without much luck.

Update. I dropped this getting out of my truck at work and found it two days later. It had obviously been run over at least once. It still worked perfectly.

So, I busted off the case and using a plastic cork from a bottle of wine made this>

Thanks Mate!

I have since removed the chip from the cork and embedded it in an old USB cable. So it is the end of a usb cable on my key ring. PICS coming as soon as my tea assimilates.
