Just had a chance to use the Mac version, it's definitely an improvement. Most significant is that the Mac version finally uses multi-threaded decoding of h264 files and a sleeker interface. Though I'm still digging through the preferences for some customizing. |

Strange, but on my Macs, when I open VLC, it prompted me to download the update, which I did on two Macs. Works fine, although the installation was a little off.
On my PC, when I went to check for updates, it said none available. That was a few hours ago though.

Yes, I believe you're correct. My internal updater didn't show anything either. However, the full installer removes the old version anyway. (I often use the zipped versions with many programs, but used the full installer with this one). Not sure why, guess it's just always been that way with this particular program.
Oh, and as I'm sure some of you have seen, there are many options as far as 'extra features' when installing...so watch carefully.

I ended up downloading the Installer Package from their site, but I have not installed it yet.
Does anyone know if you can install it right over the older version, or should I uninstall that version first?

It removes the previous version with the option to retain or discard user settings.
