 | [DVR] Number of Shows DVR Can Record Simultaneously The Comcast website claims their DVR can record more than 3 shows simultaneously. Heres the URL: »www.comcast.com/Corporate/Learn/···sed=true
Is this accurate? Anybody able to do this? If so how? |

yhp join:2006-12-27 Philadelphia, PA | That would definitely be dependent on the model of DVR Comcast procures for you. This thread may offer some insight into what I believe is Comcast's only four-tuner model:
»[DVR] Spectrum Quad Tuner DVR revealed
It allows you to record up to 3 programs simultaneously while you watch a 4th. |

The current DVR's in general use only have two tuners and can only record 2 shows at the same time. You can watch a 3rd existing recording while it's recording the other two. And, you can do that without affecting your Internet speeds. |

Long story short: they've probably put these in enough homes to say in advertising that they "offer" it.... subject to hardware availability, blah blah blah lawyerspeak blah blah.
Good luck getting one, OP. |

That is one important difference. UVerse is limited in the number of channels, especially HD, it can stream to one address. If you are recording 2 or more HD channels, you may not be able to watch any HD on other boxes in the house. |

That's exactly what they are saying, they just do a poor job of conveying that. UVerse has a total bandwidth capacity of up to 3 HD shows since everything is streamed, while Comcast is not constrained by such limitations since they have much more bandwidth for VOD as well as all channels available simultaneously. |

Russ join:2011-03-17 Houston, TX kudos:1 | reply to Sally7345 The web site does not claim the DVR can record more than 3 shows simultaneously.
The web site is comparing Comcast with AT&T U-verse and states "Record more than 3 live HD shows simultaneously." This is a true statement because you can rent multiple DVRs and each one can record two HD shows simultaneously. With AT&T U-Verse, you can only rent one whole house DVR and it is limited to recording only 3 HD shows simultaneously.

If this ad is supposed to cover the multi-DVR experience, why wouldn't it say "record up to 6 HD shows simultaneously"? |

 | reply to Sally7345 When I go there it says "Record more than 3 live HD shows simultaneously with multiple DVRs" What's incorrect about that? |

If this ad is supposed to cover the multi-DVR experience, why wouldn't it say "record up to 6 HD shows simultaneously"? The web site is pointing out AT&T U-Verse's limitation of only recording 3 HD shows simultaneously. The user can't add another AT&T U-Verse DVR to record more HD shows simultaneously. Comcast is not limited to only 6 HD shows simultaneously, I can rent another Comcast HD DVR and then record 8 HD shows simultaneously, etc. where the cost of renting a DVR is the only limitation. -- SA 8300 HD DVRs with Patched S25 Guide Links: 'S25 Guide Blog' 'Schedule' 'Info' 'Patch Thread' |

And inside happy magic Spectrum land, there's a three-recording limit per box, so.... 6, not 8.)
Main point: Yeah, IF you live in a Spectrum-ready market, and IF they can spare the hardware. Willingness to pay more doesn't guarantee a customer even HDMI these days, let alone the latest-and-greatest STB in their lineup. |

In an earlier post Russ said that he already had three comcast DVRs (he can already do 6 channels in HD simultaneously with three DVRs which is apparently more than what AT&T Uverse can do with any amount of hardware in the home) so adding another DVR would be four DVRs for Russ and that would allow him eight channels of simultaneous HD recordings.
It was getting to be a complicated multi-level word problem. |

Fitting, since the capability promised in the ad is a multi-DVR problem. |

That is the point I was making.
I don't think the web page is referring to the Xfinity Spectrum DVR (X1) since that DVR is still only in a test market.
If you have the current AnyRoom DVR, you may be limited to only recording 2 shows simultaneously. I don't think you can have the AnyRoom DVR and another DVR but that is not clear. Comcast isn't currently offering the AnyRoom DVR in the Houston SA/Cisco market yet. If anyone knows for sure, please clarify? -- SA 8300 HD DVRs with Patched S25 Guide Links: 'S25 Guide Blog' 'Schedule' 'Info' 'Patch Thread' |

AnyRoom complications. Awesome.
So, Comcast makes pithy promises in their advertising (Record three shows at once! OMG!), and reality is several pages long, and delivers under a very small, very specific subset of scenarios.
Got it. |
