[LoL] Life after LoL

Does it exist?

I won't be quitting, but I'm going to be spending less time playing. The number of the trolls in the game is incredible and there seems to be few long-term penalties (or ineffective ones) for players who intentionally ruin the game through AFKing, feeding, or trolling.

In addition to winning bonus points with the wife for being able to hit pause whenever I want, I'm going to free up some time to finish a couple games that have been on my "to do" list for a while:

•The Witcher 2: Absolutely fantastic story, ranks up there with Mass Effect. I need to finish my first play through as sword (almost finished Chapter 1) and then go back through and play as a mage.
•Mass Effects: ME3 is coming out in two weeks, and I already have it pre-ordered. I'm really interested in how who your companion was from the first two affects the third. I'd like to be able to bring in saves with Liara, Ashley, and Miranda, so that means three times through ME3, and I'm going to try and finish most of 1 and 2 myself, although I expect I will cave and just download the relevant saves of the 'net.
• On a related note, I have yet to even try Skyrim.
• An MMO. I cancelled SWTOR, I won't go back to WoW, but I love good MMO mechanics and am checking out Global Agenda as a F2P MMOTPS (MMO Third Person Shooter). Is this my World of Starcraft? Also beta-testing Tera Online and looking for Firefall and GW2.

Don't even suggest Diablo 3. I'll tell Karthus to ult you.

I think it's good sometimes to have skype and/or vent for this reason. If you are signed in and just sitting there, and you are playing your ME3 or W2 and a few people get on and have time for a game, they can skype you and ask if you wanna get a game in. Playing less solo que helps weed the afk/feeders/trollers.

I think I may do that. It's certainly fun to play a game a day, but it's like gambling--if you lose you want to keep playing to get a win, but if you end up losing 2 or 3 more, you just get off incredibly frustrated.

I'd rather be available to get one good game in with friends, whether it's a win or loss, and then go play something else.

I am in the same case as you i log in and if i see all busy with a game i rather wait doing something else, tried solo q last night and it only confirmed it. I will be always available to play LoL when i am on skype but you most likely find me on SC2 or Steam.

Lately I've just been logging in and playing a quick bot match just to get the win of the day points so I can continue to collect champions, but that's really all the LOL I do anymore.

I've played Global Agenda and enjoyed it when I first started but quickly lost interest. It's a shooter MMO and the mechanics aren't bad, but it went live without much in the way of quests. You were expected to level by doing pvp. GA eventually did a couple of patches to add questing to the game but the quests aren't much to speak of and you'll still level much quicker by simply queing up for endless pvp.

When you shoot an enemy player, there is no damage modeling. Your shot is either a hit or a miss. There is no such thing as head shots or leg shots.

The biggest problem I had with GA is the horrible slowdowns. Sometimes the game would run just fine. Other times you'd get into a battleground and it would be a slide show. Forget any possibility of moving around and shooting, you'd be lucky just to figure out what killed while you stood there helplessly and nothing around you moved.

You have a quick starting tutorial/mission that takes you through the first four levels and covers all the basics (movement, shooting, melee, stealth, jump jets, etc.) and then dumps you in the capital city.

From that point, it's explained you can head into the desert to quest, take part in missions (PVE dungeons), or join PVP battlegrounds. AFAIK all of them give you XP and you gain a talent point every 2-3 levels (so far, I got to level 9 or 10 before I went to bed).

I opted for the questing route and it's visually like Borderlands/Rage. Other players are doing the same thing, and you can group up to take tough NPCs down.

While you can gain talent points and gear like an MMO, targeting is purely FPS/twitch based, although the hit-boxes can be forgiving (much less so with a sniper rifle). I'm leveling a sniper, so I dump my talents into things that increase sniper damage. I could have also gone "balanced" or stealth assassin type that uses katanas and energy swords.

The game is completely free, with paid-for perks like XP bonuses and such.

footballdude speaks of the slowness... is the gameplay fluid like WoW, or are there major ability delays like SWTOR?

I haven't experienced any slow-downs, although I've noticed that the game treats bullet time like BF3 does--the farther a target is away, the longer it takes for my sniper round to hit him.

Everything is as smooth as butter. But I'm running an i7-920, 24GB of ram, and a GTX 580. rawr.

Yeah, I only use skype for talking to you dorks in LoL, so it's pretty easy for me to see who's on or not, even if I don't know most of your real names.

Same here. I'll be letting SoloQ aside in favor of other games.
As it's been said, the punishment for ruiners are non-existent. The tribunal is a joke -- if someone is deemed guilty, it might take months, if not years, for Riot to get to the case. The punishment will often be something like a 2-3 days ban, or a week if really bad. Then they go right back at it. A game is at the very least 20min long, let's say on average 30min. I often have less than 2 hours per night to play on average. Factor in the setup time during picks, I'm lucky if I can play 2 games. A single feeder, AFker, troll, or immature prick will ruin close to one hour of my free time.

Yesterday I played six SC2 games, won 50%. Being 1v1, I know I deserved those wins and losses. I lost to faggotty tactics like DT rushes, but that's because I failed at scouting. My point is, any loss in SC2 is easily explained if you want to be critical and review the game in a replay. Which is what I do: "I had a 5min window to finish him but turtled like a noob and lost because of it."

In LoL? Too many variables. As its been said before, the only constant is you.

SP games like ME3, Skyrim, TW2, D3 and the likes are fun to play in short bursts but eventually I always burn out. I already cancelled TOR: I just couldn't handle the AH and the grinding.

I am sure ME3 will keep me in. I usually need a solid narrative to keep me interested -- something SC2's campaign excelled at, and it's mostly a MP RTS.

I've been playing some X3 here and there, but again... it's so huge and slow, absent of any enthralling storytelling, so there's little to keep me coming back, except the thrill of advancement.

Global Agenda sucks big time, don't waste your time.

Times are changing, attention spans are becoming shorter and our disposable time is on its way to be so scarce I'll need to carefully pick games I even want to play.

Aside ME3 and SC2:HotS, I am not excited for any other game this year. Guild Wars 2 has promise, but I fear it'll have another lame ass industry system with botched mechanics, because MMO devs always cater to PvPers' needs before the carebears, which sucks.

Dota 2 is stupidly more hardcore than LoL and I am sure it will be just as worse in due time, community wise.

There will likely be less trolling but the community as a whole will become the new asshole of the gaming world.

DotA is cut throat and much like HoN having a community of complete degenerate dick bag cock whores, DotA II will as well because it is only the nature progression the try-hard kiddies move over.

There will likely be less trolling, but as a whole? The community will be as fun as anal cancer.
