I always notice that IE needs the updates but not Firefox, why is that? Only IE has Active X. Spyware Blaster is primarily used to set the "killbit" (block in other words) nasty, malicious Active X objects. Fx doesn't have Active X so all Spyware Blaster does for it is to manage some nasty cookies. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | reply to dp I installed a trial of GData 2012 this evening on a virtual machine that has Spyware Blaster. GData demanded that I fully remove Spyware Blaster before it would install. It said Spyware Blaster is an antivirus program and you can't run two antivirus programs in real time because of lethal conflicts.
Geeez....I am surprised that GData could be that ignorant about Spyware Blaster...thinking it is a antivirus program! I forced GData to install anyway (I wasn't about to remove Spyware Blaster) and just as I expected they get along just fine together. GData has really improved since the last time I tried it two years ago and I like it a lot so far but I sure don't like its stupidity about Spyware Blaster. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | reply to Dustyn Yeah, I don't know why it is so large. It is 16.5MB in Program Files when installed. I had to give up trying to download it until about 1AM here as it was a VERY slow download. Softpedia has it, download.com, GData in Germany, and GData in England and not much other sources for download. I got it from England at a decent download rate given how far away I am. I think GData needs to put a server on the West Coast. I was surprised that MajorGeeks doesn't have it as their mirrors are reasonably fast for me or FileHippo (which does have paid AV as well as free). Softpedia and download.com were very slow. I think GData is about where Avira was when I first got them (Jan 2007) in regards to penetration and interest in the USA. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | reply to Madtown Well....considering that IE is an integral part of the OS and the fact that Spyware Blaster is a small program and uses very little resources, I would have it installed even if not using IE. I rarely use IE (and only for speed tests when I do) but I keep Spyware Blaster installed and up to date. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty.
