New Quebec Cable Rates - As of March 13, 2012

*This thread is accurate as of March 13, 2012. If you are looking at this thread in the distant future, chances are things have changed.*

The New, altogether better, Rates:

Basic Cable 3/0.8 - 300 GB - $24.95
Basic Cable 3/0.8 - Unlimited - $34.95
Express Cable 8/1 Lite - 75 GB - $29.95
Express Cable 8/1 - 300 GB - $39.95
Express Cable 8/1 - Unlimited - $47.95
Extreme Cable 15/1.5 Lite - 75 GB - $34.95
Extreme Cable 15/1.5 - 300 GB - $50.95
Extreme Cable 15/1.5 - Unlimited - $57.95
Ultimate Cable 30/2 Lite - 75 GB - $45.95
Ultimate Cable 30/2 - 300 GB - $59.95
Ultimate Cable 30/2 - Unlimited - $69.95

overage: $0.50/GB to a maximum of $25/month
Activation: $85, Move Fee: $85, Dispatch: $75, Account Changes $5

The old rates (for reference):

Basic 3/0.8 - 5 GB - $26.95 -> Becomes Basic 3/0.8 Unlimited
High Speed 8/1 - 50 GB - $32.95 -> Becomes Express 8/1 300GB*
High Speed Pro 8/1 - 120 GB - $54.95 -> Becomes Express 8/1 300GB
High Speed Elite 8/1 - Unlimited - $79.95 -> Becomes Express 8/1 Unlimited
Ultimate 30/2 - 120 GB - $65.95 -> Becomes Ultimate 30/2 Unlimited*
*This mapping means a price increase. You can, for free, switch to a lower capacity if you choose.

overage (NOTE: NEVER WAS ACTUALLY CHARGED BY TEKSAVVY!):
$4.75/GB to max $50 for Basic and High Speed
$1.75/GB no maximum for Ultimate
blocks:
30GB - $15
5GB - $6
Activation: $59.95, Move: $85, Dispatch: $75

==Process==

A notice will be sent out to subscribers giving 30 days notice to pick a new option, or be put automatically on the new plan.

You can choose your option (including new speeds!) via the "My World" Customer Web Portal here: »myworld.teksavvy.com/Account/Login.aspx

It says it will take 15 days, however there have been reports that in as few as three days people have power-cycled their modem and VOILA! the new speed is active.

This makes me sad though. I currently pay $32.95 for 8MB/s service with a 50GB cap. That 50GB cap is enough for me, I don't need more, but I do need greater than 3MB/s speed.

So I'll be forced to pay an additional $7/month just to maintain the same service I have today. (Even though they'll increase my cap, as I never hit it it doesn't matter).

ElectronicBox has 75GB 8MB/s service at $31.95. At $8/month more, it doesn't take too long to make it worthwhile for me to switch.

I don't want to switch... I like TekSavvy. But I loved Videotron too (really, they were an awesome company to deal with from both a tech support and customer service standpoint). Ultimately, like everyone else, I came to TekSavvy because of the rates. And, ultimately, that may be the reason I'll leave them.

Thanks Marc! I updated the initial post.

By any chance, do you have a mapping of which old packages will be migrated to the new ones? Or do people have the option of staying on the old ones (grandfathered)?

I believe a notice will go out and those who are already a subscriber will have 30 days to decide what they want to do. Not sure about the mapping.

Re: New Quebec Cable Rates

Has there been an upgrade to 1.5Mbits upload on some tiers?

Also, will both taxes be charged on this service, or will it be GST only, like DSL?

The only "losing" class of users (which I, unfortunately, belong to) is High Speed 8/1 users who used less than 60GB. The rest of the subscriber base is happy (I assume).

Not at this time. I've edited my initial post to include the upload limits as announced this evening. You can also find the latest here (remember to check you're in Quebec on the upper right corner!).

I just noticed that too. Ebox offers 1.5 upload on 15mpbs. So does Distributel.

So Marc... here's now the plea for me and folks like me.

Is there any chance you can maintain an Express Cable 8/1 at the current price point of $32.95 but with a lower cap? Say... 75GB?

Or is this very much set in stone now?

Hey Marc, similar question.

Any chance for 30Mb, not for unlimited, is that price very much set in stone? It seems not worth at all for those who doesnt need unlimited.

TSI offered 30Mb, 300Gb for $59.95
Ebox offered 30Mb, 250Gb for $49.95

It is an extra 50Gb, but $10 more. It is good for those who need more bw, but not to those who wait for long enough but do not required that much bw.

Sorry about that! If it is only $5 more, it is ok for me, but..... maybe too bad, it is over my own expectation in price.....Will you guys has another plan for 30M users before I make my decision?

Thanks

Marc any word on your capacity with Videotron, we know it's a gig-e but is it capped like Ebox's to 500-700 mbps or less ?

I guess my question is what are the plans to keep up with the heavy demand for cable.

Scott M, tigerboby,

These things are not necessarily cast in stone. I don't want to set the wrong expectations though. These are the rates for now.

i am totally agree.

what I was expecting to wait for an additional almost 3 weeks to find out it is a bit too much for user that doesn't need unlimited.

I was expecting something like 30M, 300G, same price as Ebox
60M, 300G, same price as Ebox but TSI does not offer this currently.

TSI current price is $10 more for 300Gb compare to Ebox $10 less for 250Gb. Hope this price can be revise.

Anyway, business is business. Since TSI charge cable for QC is 2 taxes by law.

Understood, things may change. If they do soon enough, I'll be a happy sub. If not, I'll consider my options.

Please be sure to keep us abreast of any developments... in cases like mine, time is of the essence.

what's with the heavy activations fee of $85? Unless I am mistaken this is the highest of all the IISP's

Does Teksavvy serve the city of Gatineau with the new cable rates?
