Unlimited with Verizon 4G?

My current isp at my house is a mom & pop outfit serving 500+ 802.11b wireless customers with a 45mbit source connection which broadcasts from grain elevators to people (like me) in the country side. Verizon just unveiled 4G in my area, but sprint has no 4G towers within 60 miles.

When i tried to sign up for unlimited 4G through millenicom, i was told that i wasn't eligible because i was out of the sprint coverage area. The rep called me and told me that i had to say that i was traveling to a sprint coverage area in order to get the unlimited plan. I said that i wasnt because i'm worried about overage charges, in case i download 100gb through verizons towers.

Does anybody know if these charges would incur or can i safely sign up for the unlimited plan? It's worth noting that i will be traveling to sprint 4g areas occasionally, it just wont be the norm.

Thanks

I get about .5mbps downstream and .3mbps up. The 45mb source connection is their connection which they distribute among 500+ people. I'm getting 4g for sure, but i wanted to try and get unlimited if possible.

The Millenicom "Unlimited Plan" has a real 50GB per month limit. If most of your usage is on Verizon towers due to where you are, that is going to be a sore point.

He won't be able to get Sprint 4g off a Verizon tower will he? I didn't even think you could 3g service while roaming on a Verizon tower. I tried once and all I could pick up was 1xrtt.

They did offer me one plan lower with a 50gb cap since i'm in the verizon area. I didn't ask if it was 4G, but i assume so.

? They offered you a 50GB plan using Verizon? Is it the same $69.99/month as the Sprint plan?

Millenicom does not have 50GB with Verizon, only 20GB

They didn't actually say it was a verizon plan, they just said that i was out of the sprint 4g area, but they could offer me a 50gb plan. Verizon is the only 4g in my area and i dont think you can download 50gb with 3g (i didnt do the math) so i'm assuming that it's a verizon 50gb 4g plan.

No, it will be the Sprint based plan. By saying you are mobile and going to use it in the Sprint non roaming area, he can get you that 50GB "Unlimited" plan. If you use it in a non Sprint area for the majority of the data, you may be generating data roaming charges in amounts that Millenicom and Sprint did not agree to, if you can even get the modem to work at 3G speeds in a non Sprint area. According to the Sprint website you are limited to 300MB of roaming data.

I think you have a realistic choice of the two Verizon based plans. The 3G Advanced with 20GB per month for $60 or the 4G HotSpot with 10GB for $80. To get more data than that, you can get multiple modems and swap them out as you use them up, but that can be a hassle to keep track of.

The other choice would be to see if you can get the new Exede satellite based internet service. This, »/r0/download/1···8118_468, is supposedly a chart of possible service options using Exede. But Exede is having lots of problems. The usage meters are wildly off the mark. Modem disconnected and usage goes up . Exede knows about the problem and says they are not limiting anybody based on the bad meters which may be fixed at any moment. The other issue is modems failing with little usage. These are the typical pains a brand new service goes through. Whether you want to be along for the roller coaster ride and headaches is up to you.

Re: Unlimited with Verizon 4G?

And how does this »www.viasatresidential.com/exede/home relate to Millenicom Wireless Broadband?

The biggest issue I see with exede is the very low caps and being tied into a contract, even if the service sucks. With exede you can get decent speed, but your not going to do much with those caps.

I'd much rather get my .5M/sec down and .3M up with a 50GB cap or no cap.

His link was correct as well, those are the plans and prices for the customers elegible for the recovery act. I almost gave up my brand new hotspot for that 50 GB cap on exede but decided the latency wasn't worth the speed for me. And the fact that I would be taking a chance with a company that had long ago proven to me that they could not be trusted.

I wondered when you'd chime in Jack. As davidhoffman suggested, it is an option for internet service. Previously, I would not have recommended satellite internet, but the new launched sats are providing some competition.

I understand your thinking but this is a Millenicom forum and IMO posts should be kept to things relating to Millenicom. You have the option to IM him with that info and not post off topic info.

No offence, but how is correcting a link you think might be mis posted going off topic?? Also, you do realise that without me and others bringing up Millenicom in the satellite forums, them Millenicom wouldn't have a lartge number of customers they now have. I understand not wanting to get a thread debating which satellite service is best and so on and so forth, but it is just as fair to offer satellite as an alternative here as it is to offer Millenicom as an alternative there. In my opinion, no one in their right mind would trade this service for satellite anyhow, but lets face it, there are people that have needs that 3G service cannot offer and LTE isn't everywhere yet and likely never will be. As long as there are pretty much 2 choices for rural broadband (satellite and cellular) then you are going to have mixed comments in any forum.

I had actually looked at exede before but i was doing a lot of online gaming at the time, so i dismissed it. That might be the best option unless there's some sort of magical legislation that forces these ISPs to uncap everyone

saturn2121

@myvzw.com

Go with the 20gb 3g plan from Millenicom before getting exede. If everybody don't run out and sign up with it they will raise the caps.

Is Jack_in_VA a moderator or administrator on this forum? If not, then who cares if he's happy or not?

The information you posted isn't off-topic because the op is looking for an alternative to what he currently has. And satellite might work for him.
