Re: [Chat] Interview today, yikes!
Wow guys, it sure is nice to be wanted/needed:
I did my volunteer teaching today and helped the teacher actually. I told her I got a job and don't know if or how it will affect my ability to help and she asked if, say, I worked in the morning, would I like to come in in the afternoon then to teach (they have a set schedule, but evidently, they like how I am doing!)
It is a great feeling helping my fellow disabled learn skills. I even prevented one guy from getting scammed when he showed me a snail mail letter from what was obviously an identity thief. I told him to get with his counselor BEFORE he responded to that mail or any mail like it.
This is the second time I've seen scammers go after my fellow disabled. It infuriates me. I am high functioning so I am beginning to think that at some point, when I have a car, I might want to become an advocate and help my fellow disabled, to protect them from these monsters.
Those of us here, in this forum are pretty web savvy, but you might be surprised how people, even reasonably bright, can get tricked into things those of us here would never get nailed on. I know college educated people that are even vulnerable. It's just darned scary.
BTW, don't know my start date for work yet. Called there and checked in, person I needed to talk to was out. I sure hope nothing happens to gum up the works...
I love helping my peers, hope I can continue to do so.
