[MLB] Ryan Braun

Ryan Braun will not serve a 50 game suspension after testing positive for PED's. I think he took PEDS and should serve the suspension. Thoughts?

WTF? Huh?

Proves that it doesn't matter what you do, it only matter who you are. Disgraceful, utterly and totally disgraceful.

Here's the story on ESPN:

»espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/76083···spension

Basically, he's getting off on a technicality, not because he didn't have PED in his urine, which tested 20:1.

This has Selig's hand writing all over it, no? Just like he hid Barry Bonds 3 failed tests.

Aha! 'Chain of custody' breach!

The old 'urine sample collector guy picks it up late on Saturday and figures FedEx won't ship it til Monday and so brings it home with him instead' ploy! Works every time!

And according to Ryan Braun, "it is the first step in restoring my good name and reputation."

The arbitrator ruled on this. MLB ruled him guilty.

Yeah, I know. The final word was that of the "independent" arbitrator. Sure it was. Selig hid Bond's failed tests and I have no doubt he had his hands on this looney deal too. MLB, can say what they want. They had ZERO interest in a tarnished MVP, especially when Selig and his lot keep braying about how The Steroid Era is over. Bullshit.

Selig is a terrible commissioner and this is only the latest example of why.

It's a little more than a technicality. It's the same sloppy evidence handling that gets court cases (many of which would be won) thrown out of court.

His word, not mine.

quote:
Travis Tygart, chief executive officer of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, called the decision "a real gut-kick to clean athletes."

"To have this sort of technicality of all technicalities let a player off ... it's just a sad day for all the clean players and those that abide by the rules within professional baseball," he said.

I understand. I still disagree that it's a technicality. If they can't prove they're producing unaltered pee that came out of his pee-pee they screwed up big time. There was no sense even doing the test.

1 recommendation

No doubt. And, what's really screwed up is MLB entrusted the "evidence" to what amounts to a glorified bicycle courier. You would think MLB would have full-time dedicated pee-pee people whose only responsibilities are to ensure the chain of custody isn't compromised and to ensure the integrity of the pee-pee isn't compromised. MLB did a piss-poor job.

Shyam Das has a long and distinguished career as an arbitrator, both for baseball and other industries. He's been doing this for way longer than Bud Selig has been commissioner. He's not about to tarnish his career to make Selig happy. Das doesnt need baseball.

What's the part i heard about his test having 3 times the testosterone levels of any other test they have ever done? Is that part if the reason it was ruled in his favor?

Any chance he is clean?

There's a chance's he's clean. There's a chance he was using. And there's no way to know.

Braun learned Oct. 19 his sample was positive for elevated testosterone, which he said was at a ratio that was the highest ever recorded in baseball’s testing program.

Yes, but there was a substantial delay until the subsequent clean test. Victor Conte, a man who would know better than anybody alive said that the second test being clean was basically meaningless, because of the time gap between the tests.

Braun is a blatant cheat and is no better than Barry Bonds or Manny Ramirez, or dozens of other current and former players that have been busted for or linked to PEDs.

I don't give a shit how reputable the famous arbiter is. MLB is a Goliath and was the paying customer who got the result they wanted.

The Steroid Era is not over. That much is clear.

I love baseball. I love so many things about it I can't tell you all about it here.

I'm a Red Sox fan. I'm under no illusions that every member of the Red Sox is clean. It's obvious that at least several weren't in the fairly recent past. Manny, caught two or three times. Big Papi, caught when it wasn't being counted, like A-Rod. At least A-Rod was a lot more forthcoming than Ortiz, who said he'd look into it and get back to us. That was years ago, he never said another word about it. The suspect list is long.

I don't like PED users because it makes High School and College athletes think, and rightly so that PEDs are the ticket to fame and fortune.

So, as a fan I'm conflicted and MLB turning a blind eye to the whole issue are the ones who've put me in that position. It's not right to boo A-Rod and cheer Big Papi over PED use.

After the test came back positive he offered to take a dna test to prove that it wasn't his sample that tested positive. MLB rejected that.

Supposedly the testing was completed on a Friday around 5:30 pm.
quote:
Laurenzi said he stored Braun’s sample in his basement in accordance with CDT’s protocol because there was “no FedEx office located within 50 miles of Miller Park that would ship packages that day or Sunday.”

Braun, however, has said at least five FedEx locations within 5 miles were open until 9 p.m. and there also was a 24-hour location.
