| US networks need not worry US networks have nothing to worry about for OTT platforms. Sure, you can use Skype all you want, but you are forced to buy 450 minutes at $40/mo just to have the privilege of adding 3GB or 4GB of data for $30/mo to your plan. Maybe texting will eventually die, even though right now it is still alive and well, but even then, the base cost of a data-enabled smartphone would be $70/mo. As long as they don't have data-centric or data-only plans, they will continue to have a cash cow. And the US is so big and sprawled that no little upstart can hurt the big two, like happened in France. |
