| reply to goose1000 Keep in mind I ran into this in my own house.
I kept getting static on the land line at my house for the longest. For some reason the static was even making it through the nid splitter and was present at the nid. Of course when I unplugged at the nid the dial tone was clear from best I could tell. I still had this buzzing I couldn't pick up at all.
I even switched the line over to the test magicjack line and still had the static. SO I knew at that point the wiring outside was clear.
fast forward about 2 weeks, we come home and notice a faint smell of burnt plastic. Sure enough the cordless base station sitting on the table next to the couch pretty much melted. ironically at that point we bought a new cordless phone and the static disappeared.
what was goofy about this one was I could hear the static at the nid, and I could hear it in the house. Finally after cutting off the landline entirely and going right to the magicjack gave me a small clue, but I think the biggest was when the base station melted. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. | That sounds similar to what I going through, I can hear it at my inside jack and outside @NID. But Tech guys are not hearing or seeing issues with the POTS side, even though they do see a lot of errors with my dsl sync. |

Re: [Xtreme] AT&T threaten me..I think! I would say if you could find a magicjack and the $30 for the year you could probably determine a few things.
Essentially what you are looking at doing is proving the POTS circuit once and for all. With your own test POTS circuit least then if the static is on the magicjack, you could nail it down for sure.
Doesn't have to be a magicjack, but that would be the cheapest I could think of.
maybe others have another idea as well. I was paying for my magicjack at the time so it was a perfect troubleshooting tool for me. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. | reply to goose1000 Well got new power supply today and fired the 3347 back up. We will see how that goes, last 2 days on my wire has been absolutely horrendous. I also got my power company out here this week and they are measuring lines and grounds for "static noise" that might interfere. |
|
 | reply to medbuyer I called but had to leave message hopefully she will call back soon. |

 | reply to goose1000 Well new power supply, still disconnecting. Asjamias does Shelley return phone calls, 2 days now I have had to leave messages. On another note power company has found some unusual static noise and guess where..right near the NID. The source, no idea. Do you guys think maybe a noise filter out at NID will help with that? |

Do you guys think maybe a noise filter out at NID will help with that? Not very likely (especially since any filter you could install that would filter out wide band noise would likely also filter out the DSL signal), but finding the cause and removing it should certainly be helpful.
My guess would be that somewhere nearby there is worn or damaged insulation and telco wiring could be intermittently shorting to electrical power (or even just to ground). I have seen just such a thing happen and that was one reason that I suggested having an electrician run a new homerun cable to your modem (and not just use another wire pair in your existing wiring). -- We can never have enough of nature. can you maybe post a wider picture of your whole NID setup, showing the box, wire from pedestal and maybe include the box where the power cable comes in? JUST a bigger, wider picture so we can see the whole house demarc setup.

 | reply to goose1000 Just curious why would my 2wire modem noise margin be almost double what my 3347 stays at. My SNR on wire sometimes creeped up to 30. Highest I have ever seen 3347 is about 22-23.

wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | reply to goose1000 I think it's very normal for different modems to display different line stats on the same dsl line
The 2wire noise margin, max rate and attenuation just don't fit together |
