The "Closing connection" entry you show in the log excerpt you posted simply means that the active session to the TR-069 server is being closed, not that your DSL connection is being closed.

Typically the only time that a remote management session from the ISP would actually restart your internet connection (or the modem itself) would be if they changed your PPPoE authentication or upgraded your firmware (neither of which would be happening at the disconnect rate you are experiencing).

I don't know which modem you are currently using, but in the Motorola/Netopia modems you can disable it from a telnet command line. The commands below are only possible if your Motorola/Netopia modem supports using the telnet interface (and newer SBC inspired modems don't). I do not currently have access to a 2wire modem, so I can't tell you how to disable remote ISP management (or if it is possible).

However, I think that it is clear from your previous posts that your DSL disconnects are because of the audible noise you can hear on your line, not from frequent updates and reboots from the TR-069 server (those should typically be spaced at least several months apart anyway).

OTOH, I have always disabled any remote access from the ISP whenever possible because I prefer to decide when to upgrade the firmware in my CPE devices, when to make configuration changes, and when to reboot them.

No.

OTOH, if you are using a high powered cell phone repeater, and it is malfunctioning, perhaps that might be generating wide band noise. Anything that uses electricity could generate wide band noise (florescent lights for example are often the culprits for DSL modem sync problems), but since you have said that you did not hear any noise in an AM radio when you heard it in your telephone handset (and/or lost modem sync) that would seem to rule out any RF source for the noise.

You should have chewed the guy out for not going to your place and even put his supervisor on conference call so they both could hear what you have to say.

Don't settle for crap like this....call his supervisor or AT&T tech support again and tell them that the tech didn't go to your place where the static is.

Frankly, if I were in your shoes, I would be annoyed now and would really wage a battle with the incompetent techs and supervisor.

I think it's time for a TV reporter and a maybe a Consumerist tip of your issue. Heck, anything that will force them to fix your issue.

how did you know that an ATT tech came out and was out on the road listening? Did someone call you?

I would have called his supervisor and or att tech support and report that he didn't go to your house so he could hear the static you are hearing...

maybe even called the person who called you that an ATT tech was out in your area?

see, crucial details are being left out when they're trying to troubleshoot your issue and sometimes customers need to pound the tech's head just to be able to get him to see and or hear what your issue is.

I had this window open most of the time in a pc that I had that's turned on 24/7.

when I see ping times drop or stop, I check my connection and everything else...

for some reason, that ping window kept my connection alive in spite of dropped connections having used almost all of AT&T's crappy modems.

I'm not advocating this kind of practice but it helped me keep my sanity and not worry about it too much as I had other things to do.

not necessarily, I have one here at the house that sits at 18db all the time downstream and sits at about 3db upstream. It kind of depends on wiring in a premise and external. Don't just say "Oh I am at 19.6db of power that's bad!" IF the DSLAM profile is set to max of 25.5db or (yes I have seen it) 30db of power 19.6 could be normal.

Both of those readings up there give me a max distance of 7800ft max. For what we consider perfect elite stats for the 13 states (6500ft or lower), he is rather low to have the upper level profile. If they are trying to sync you on the upper level profile with what you are telling me, then intermittent sync will be a common problem as upper level frequency shifting will become a problem.

With the attenuation numbers you posted earlier, that would be inline with the 6500kbps max rating I was at while ago.

Yes I think that figure is too high for the sync rate you have but the attndr figure contradicts that

I've found that the estimated loop length figures given by the motorola modems are close to the loop length figures given by att techs who have access to that type of info

Yes, if your loop length were actually 14480 feet, it would be rather long for a 3 mbps connection (and the "bridge tap" would also seem to be a bit foreboding. However, it is not unusual for an inexpensive (inexpensive compared to real DSL test equipment) DSL modem to report both of those things incorrectly.

FWIW, I think you are looking in the wrong place again. Your problem is the noise on your telco line, it does not really appear to be a "DSL" problem (although a bridge tap ...if there is one... could be a potential entry point for noise).

I would say in my experience the 3347 is probably right. 41.4db attenuation to 43db attenuation should have a max rate cieling of 5900kbps to 6300kbps max.

6500 seems a bit high for a 41.4db attenuation.

if he's claiming that line was replaced from pole to pedestal to his NID, then maybe the only thing left is the ground wire / rod not grounded correctly or the ground source being ineffective at all.

Not very likely (especially since any filter you could install that would filter out wide band noise would likely also filter out the DSL signal), but finding the cause and removing it should certainly be helpful.
