Power on the WNDR4500 ... Waite 2 minutes .... Now from your computer LAN port to the WNDR4500 LAN port connect an Ethernet cable. Your computer should pick up a IP address automatically within 15 seconds NOW in your browser's address line type 192.168.1.1 and within 10 seconds you should get the WNDR4500 admin login screen. In this screen type admin THEN for the password type password AND that should get you into the GUI. The GUI is slow so be patient as you navigate the various screens. BTW, none of the above information is in the current User Manuel.
Do not use the INTERNET port on the WNDR4500 ... Only use the LAN port ... It does not matter which LAN port. Once the WNDR4500 AP mode is enabled all the routing and DHCP, NAT, SPI functions are automatically turned off so your computer will no longer be connected to the 4500 ... So you must assign a IP address manually .... Unless you immediately connect the 4500 to your active ROUTER which now will be assigning the IP addresses via its DHCP server or through some other DHCP server you have in service to server all CALLS. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

 | thanks again for the information mozer..
i think i will have to do a factory reset to get this to work properly as i i tried this and the router is not giving out any ip addresses at all. when i try this, and set static ip's on the same subnet, i still cannot connect to the router.
as an aside, i also already have my firewall/core router on my network as 192.168.1.1.. |

 | reply to mozerd ok, i just hard reset the router.
reset ip address to .4, set to ap mode, turned off dhcp.
now it appears to be set correctly, but it's not passing dhcp addresses from my core dhcp server.
i can connect to the ap in degraded mode, but not get to internet.. |

Potential Issues
1. DHCP configuration may not work reliably because the wireless router/access point may not correctly relay DHCP information from the router. Workaround: Use static IPs on the wireless PCs. |

i can connect to the ap in degraded mode, but not get to internet.. You do not need to turn off the DHCP service on the WNDR4500 router. When you enable AP mode the firmware automatically turns of a number of services including the DHCP service.
When you set up the AP IP address did you also set up the Gateway IP Address and the subnet IP Address -- otherwise you will not be able to get your DHCP service to work from your DHCP server nor will you be able to connect to the Internet. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

I've installed quite a few of these routers and have run into serveral issue all pointing towards hardware failure .... had all the ones with hardware issues replaced --- all working WNDR4500 on powerup have the DHCP server working properly. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

my setup as follows
4500 192.168.1.3 (static) juniper 192.168.1.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 |

not arguing with you, just letting you know
i have a support case open with them to determine next steps |
