I had the same issue with a SB5120. I swapped it out for a docsis 3 Zoom 5341j and my issue was resolved. Do you have a different modem you can swap for troubleshooting?

Yeah there is a wireless phone a few feet away from it. I'll try moving it away.

No this is the only modem I have that we received from COX

@optonline.net

Your modem is doing channel hopping because it's a D2 modem. OOL started doing that for older modems too because they would always sit on 1 channel here and then gets clogged. Now with hopping it can move them based on node channel congestion.

The problem is however your modem is changing waaaaaay too fast/frequent. usually it's a modem issue so call them up and get a D3 modem like what CornDog494 did..

The only caveat to this is I think your modem along with mine was switching upstream channels. Cox does not bond upstream channels in my area and a replacement modem theoretically shouldn't have resolved the issue. It could just be the sign of a failing modem for all I know. You may want drop by a Best buy or something and make use of their generous return policy.

Edit: I think I found the reason for why a Docsis 3 modem fixed my channel switching issue even though Cox does not bond upstream in my area.

" In the case where a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem is not using upstream channel bonding, it can do an upstream channel change (UCC) without ever leaving the channel it is currently on. This means if it is unable to lock to an upstream channel when it receives the UCC, the customer will never notice a disruption of service. That is a very nice feature to have in place during upstream load balancing in a single channel environment before you migrate to upstream channel bonding and just one more reason to justify your investment in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems."
