and by doing so they're going to need to aquire debt or issue an IPO or do something else along those lines. They don't have the $$$ to keep expanding without doing so. And when they do take on debt and or an IPO they're not going to care about who you are. They're only going to care if you pay your bill or not and they'll become just another ISP that everyone deals with today and BBR will lose the same fuzzy feeling it had when DSLX was a private company.

Yes, NWOhio, you're unfortunately almost surely right if they want to have any significant growth, anytime soon. Unfotunately, the barrier to entry in various costs to lay physical infrastructure is extremely expensive. But this moment in time sure must be nice for the people lucky enough to get their service.
And, what about fixed broadband. With increasing speeds, such as LTE Advanced, etc, it seems this could be a real possibility. Though LTE isn't typically used this way, I bet it could be, and probably even has a profile or few specifically designed for this. Sonic could likely provide this on a broad scale much cheaper and still have pretty decent speeds and pricing. Something I'm sure Sonic is or has already been considering.

Why would taking on debt cause them to stop caring about their customers? I'd argue that it would have the opposite effect. It would actually cause them to care just as greatly about their customers, since the customers are the ones who are ultimately paying said debt off. It's like people suddenly forgot how to run a business. Take care of your customers and the rest usually falls in line. It's not rocket science.
because taking on that debt means they're going to have to worry about 1- paying more shareholders with an IPO - or 2- pleasing the bank and bringing in the money to pay off those loans. 3- the more share holders your bring in the faster they're going to want their $$$ and an ROI to come in.
Why do you think VZ has stopped with their FTTH? They don't have the $$$ coming in like they thought they would. And by babying those customers you lose $$$$ when you could be adding more customers in the time it takes to hold one customer's hand over something simple. A great way to trim some $$$ and actually put back into the company would be get rid of all the frills that they offer- Email, webspace, news groups, etc. That all costs $$$ and they could be smart and put that back into expanding their FTTH network.
Some business prefer to expand slow and not take debt.
Actually before our current monetary policy this is how most business had to expand.
and there for Sonic.net will never fully last. They will be bought out of they can not expand or upgrade as needed. And by offering 1gig service is not competing as you will NEVER use the full service. In fact they're shooting themselves in the foot as they're going to end up paying MORE for their bandwidth than what they truly need.
No offense, sonic.net is doing wonderful and so are their customers. I don't think they need any of your advice.
they will be when their customers start leaving for cheaper and better products. And it will happen. All great things come to and end- and Sonic.net will be one of them. And you must have not have read a few of their reviews about customers complaining they're unable to get new contract deals and are forced into higher plans after their contracts out- but yet every other ISP can do that. Shows that is the way Sonic.net treats their customers as they don't give a damn after they had them locked in for a year.
