Yes, she is still very much alive.
BTW, most companies such as I have dealt with in the past have sent me shipping labels to return equipment such as this.
I agree that 650 bucks is steep, but this person may have had ample notice to return the modem, and may not have done so.
If you notice, the bill was past due.

I returned the modem about a week after canceling but within that time AT&T Roadrunner had already charged me $650. They did refund it promptly as well. It was more funny than anything that they would charge so much.

I had cable modem service for about a year. When my lease on my apartment ended I moved back home and took my cable modem with me. All of that was atleast a year ago. I have never been charged for the modem nor has ATT tried contacting me about it. Go figure. I kinda wanna sell it now. I have DSL now and the cable modem is just sitting in the box not being used.

I think that the End User Agreement was printed out when the modems may have cost upwards of that much money but they've never changed the printing. So when you sign on the dotted line and deal with the devil make sure you know what your obligations are.
