 | [TV] Brighthouse central Florida - new QAM channel frequencies? I use Windows Media Center. I have several QAM tuners in my system, along with a quad-CableCARD tuner. Brighthouse recently changed the frequencies of the Clear QAM channels (my local channels).
I want to avoid doing a re-scan of channels because it will wipe out all the customizations I've done to my guide. It takes quite a bit of time to customize the guide the way I like it. So, I would prefer to add the QAM channels manually, but I can't find a list of the ACTUAL channel numbers for those channels. For example, my local CBS affiliate, WKMG, comes in QAM as "virtual" channel number 6.1. However, it was actually being received as channel 79.2 before Brighthouse changed the channels.
Can someone provide a list of QAM channels, with their ACTUAL channel numbers in my area? I'm in Melbourne, Florida. ZIP 32935.
Thanks in advance! -- Brian Reynolds, Melbourne, Florida |

Was hoping one would post by now but apparently not. I'll do what I can do dig up the old threads where we have discussed it |

 | reply to barnabas1969 I thought of something today. I remotely logged into my HTPC and tried tuning channel 1060 on my CableCARD tuner (by starting a recording on 1060... I can't actually watch the video via remote desktop), then going to the tuner's diagnostic page to see what channel it was actually tuning. It was tuned to 555MHz, program 2, 256-QAM.
I searched this frequency on Google, and came up with channel 79. My Clear QAM tuners are trying to pull that channel on 79-2 also, but they are trying to use 64-QAM. So, it seems that BHN didn't change the frequency, just the modulation. Not sure how that could be... since I was getting it in HD before.
When I get home tonight, I'll try adding channel 79-2 in 256-QAM to see if I can actually see the video on that channel. If so, then I can just use my CableCARD tuner to get all the channel numbers for my other local stations. -- Brian Reynolds, Melbourne, Florida |

 | reply to barnabas1969 OK! I figured it out! I had an idea. I tried tuning my CableCARD tuner to channel 1060 (the one that my local CBS affiliate, channel 6, comes on the CableCARD tuner). Then, I went to the Ceton status page, and found that it was tuning 555MHz, Program 2, QAM-256. I searched Google for "555MHz QAM" and found that this is channel 79. "Program 2" means that it is on 79-2. Oddly enough, my Clear QAM tuners were trying to tune 79-2 QAM-64 instead of 256.
Then, I went and re-read the link supplied by KHTPC75 on thegreenbutton.tv, and thought... "Hey, maybe my background scanner is changing it from QAM-256 to QAM-64, just like it did for Chris Cupler in the Microsoft Answers forum where Chris posted his answer." It just so happens that I have Brighthouse Networks (BHN), just like Chris Cupler!
So, I added a new QAM channel (Settings -> TV -> Guide -> Add Missing Channels -> Add QAM Channel) on channel 79-2, QAM-256. Voila! It worked!
Now, remember, I have my channels merged. So, I split the bad channels (the bad 6.1 and 79.2 ones) from 1060, DELETED them with Guide Tool, and then merged the new 79.2 with 1060. All better now.
Now, I just have to repeat this process with all of my locals. And... I'm going to disable the background scanner (see the link above) so this doesn't happen again. Thanks BHN (NOT!), and thanks (Really!) to the folks on TGB... and Chris Cupler. -- Brian Reynolds, Melbourne, Florida |

I was hoping one of our other Ceton guys would jump on this...apparently they aren't around at the moment. |

 | It actually has nothing to do with the Ceton tuner. It was getting the channels correctly. It was my Clear QAM tuners that were having a problem. According to Chris Cupler at Microsoft (see the post I linked), this is due to the "wonky PSIP" data that BHN sends with their Clear QAM channels.
Media Center has a "background scanner" that looks for new/changed channels. Unfortunately, it seems that BHN sends the PSIP with these Clear QAM channels in a way that confuses Media Center occasionally.
I manually edited my guide, added the missing/corrupt QAM channels, and now everything is happy. I still need to update some channels that I almost never watch (about 18 of them), but the main channels I care about are all fixed now.
Of course, it would be nice if BHN could fix this problem so that I can re-enable my background scanner so that Media Center will automatically detect new channels as BHN adds them... but I can live with it as-is for now. -- Brian Reynolds, Melbourne, Florida |

|
 | The problem was the Media Center "detected" a change when there wasn't one. Somehow, it thought that all my ClearQAM channels had changed to 64QAM instead of 256QAM.
Tivo doesn't come anywhere close to Media Center for many reasons. I considered Tivo when I started on my quest for whole home DVR, but it didn't fit the bill. -- Brian Reynolds, Melbourne, Florida |

I'm not a TiVo fanatic (it's just not my thing) but I do use one daily for troubleshooting purposes and receive the change notices often. So from that perspective it does a good job. |

 | What are the kB? The Data Size? I am searching the BHN in Birmingham but I can't figure out the DATA. Did your set give you that info?
Thanks. |
