IIRC Apple is sitting on 100 billion in cash +-. Couldn't they buy a few content providers outright?

Doing a deal with Apple is like selling your soul to the devil.

And this really is the problem:

content providers, which have largely balked at the tech giant’s efforts to exert control over all aspects of the video service, including pricing, sources said.
The cell carriers got horrible deals from Apple, which takes a huge % of the profits, leaving carriers like Sprint going broke on the deal. Is it any wonder the content providers don't want to deal with them.

Or just establish their own. They seem to be infamious for that. Look what they did to the MP3 player industry. Not that they had aproduct that played music any better, they just passed around the iKoolaid and waited. Why not now?
