Re: Regulations

Yup, regulation has a cost, which is why it should only be done where necessary, like ensuring proper metering. What if the gas pump wasn't inspected and sealed? You'd get half a gallon every time you thought you were getting a gallon. Is the price of regulation worth it there?

yah it is. but comparing gas to the actual Internet meters is not the same thing. That can be checked very easily. you can NOT do the same with the Internet due to pings and such coming into that modem. And we all know if the ISPs started blocking that people would be on here bitching up a storm and the oh mighty blogger would be having a fit and crying for a gov't take over of all ISPs

That's a great argument for not having metered internet. If you can't properly measure it, you can't sell it by that measure.

they can. it's called the ISP does the work. NOT the customer. Which means even i you run you own meter oh well. It's not something that will be taken into account on why the differences in the meter from the Provider and your meter.

People at-large aren't very technically savvy, but you can bet "you'll pay us what we tell you to pay us and there won't be any transparency behind it" won't fly for too long. It'll fly for a while, but wait until the articles about grandma, who only checks her email and downloads the occasional recipe, getting hit with a $200 bill start making the rounds.

Better say r-e-g-u-l-a-t-i-o-n.
