I had to put her down today because she had been fighting some sort of infection for a couple of weeks and regardless of treatments...she was going downhill quickly. She was a Golden Sex-Link hen and a great layer (until recently). Unlike most of the other chickens, she exhibited a lot of character. She enjoyed being held and would always seek out human companionship. She would sneak into the house if the door was left ajar. Clara also had an adventurous streak as we would find her walking down the street looking for excitement. She loved scratch grains (who doesn't?) and would lay her eggs on the tractor seat.

Anyway, I can't say she was as endearing as a dog or cat but as far as chickens go, she was pretty darn likable. We'll miss your antics. Enjoy the big coop in the sky.

Passed away on august 2012. He had about 12 years. We was surprised as all his brother/sister/mom had not passed 5-6 years.

the 2 last year of his life he was in a family, because my wife and daughter developped allergies, but we were getting news regularly.. He was "forced" to pass away as he developped cataract, so he was not seeing anymore.

But, he's in a better world.

He looks beautiful and loved.

Every time I come here it reminds me of my Missy and brings a tear and pang of memory for the 18 years of love we shared so I speak from the heart when I say they remain with us forever.

He was with me for 15 years, and was such a sweet little boy. He was very vocal, and even with all the others here, my house is so quiet without him.

I want to add how much I hate it when I have to post something in here. I post about a pet is bad enough. Yet this is at least the third time I have had to post in here in the last couple of year.

My beautiful, loving and perfect baby boy, Quinsi, passed away today at a way to early age of 8 years 11 months. He had the most awesome personality. He loved everyone and everything and everyone loved him. It's killing me just to type this now.

Mommy and Daddy miss you more than you will ever know. You were our heart dog.

Last week, his usual work hard / play hard attitude changed to one of being quite and having no energy. After a few days, he was getting progressively worse. At the time, I thought he was eating OK.

Yesterday, I took him to the vet (avian certified). He had a massive respiratory infection and was in bad shape.

Birds are genetically imprinted to hide their true health in order to thwart predators. (I knew that.)

Not only do they fluff their feathers to make them look bigger, but they also trick you into thinking that they are eating - when they are in fact not. (I had no idea about this tactic.) It's another way to ward off predators. He had me fooled. Keet's weight was dangerously low, which I couldn't tell until the vet weighed him.

We had to try and save him, so the vet sent me home with antibiotics and instructions on what to do. That evening, he was far too weak to even stand. We made him comfortable, my husband stayed with him the whole night. He passed away in the early hours of the morning.

I don't have many photos of him, as he always attacked cameras. He ruffles his feathers and tries to aggressively bite the camera, as shown in the photo below.

I also have a Senegal parrot, who's been the subject of at least one Creative Expressions thread. He doesn't mind the camera.

I had to put my buddy (previous owner named her Infinity, the wife called her Finny, I just called her cat, or kitty, it didn't seem to make any difference, we were HER pets anyways) down on tuesday (10/16/2012). It was one of the hardest things to do, but she went downhill SO fast, there was no chance and it had to be done.

I never added Gigi to my avatar because she was a foster and belonged to rescue. But she was our permanent foster for almost 3 years and was as much a part of our family as any of the other dogs. I will add her soon. She was a sweet girl who wasn't treated the way she deserved before coming into rescue. She suffered from a number of health issues but kept her sweet disposition. Over the weekend Gigi suffered a massive heart attack, the x-rays indicate it might have been caused by a possibly cancerous mass in her chest. Her suffering ended yesterday. She will be coming home tomorrow to be with us forever. She will be deeply missed, I look forward to seeing her when my time comes. I know she's in a better place free of pain and running free again.
