I've resorted to using BT to download a TV show.

I haven't had to do this for many years.

Everyone might need to soon get used to using torrents again, for any kind of mainstream material in the future.

Also some non-commercial material is going down, even some free podcasts and Youtube reposts seem to be getting snatched up by the robo-takedown machine.

Scorched earth all the way around, it could eventually progress to the stage that the movie studios don't have much need to buy usenet takedowns any more because their shows were already taken down by mistake. :=(

Voordeligusenet.nl and SunnyUsenet are both XLNED resellers.

SunnyUsenet costs a lot less, but what is the advantage of using Voordelig Usenet?

Maybe some that are "wet-between-the-ears" will have to go back to torrents. Even though these automated DMCA take downs have hit some content hard, it hasn't stopped me from getting that content. It has just been a minor convenience. So Morganelli can talk it all they want on their website, the fact is, they aren't stopping anything, well maybe scaring off the occasional noob.

I agree. Although the takedowns have been an inconvenience for the most part I've found workarounds without much problem without resorting to torrents. I'd stop altogether if there were only torrents.

To help minimize the impact of DMCA you can try to automate as much of your usenet downloads as possible using Sickbeard, Couchpotato and RSS. So that when desired content is indexed it is downloaded from usenet as soon as possible.

Of course it's not possible to automatically download EVERYTHING you will ever want but you can automate some of it.

Good advice.

Adding to that a mix of providers will help minimize the impact too. People should have a NL only provider as backup for their US provider. NL providers take down stuff too but there is considerable lag compared to the swiftness of some of the US providers.

Right now, the servers I have (6), use like 4-5 tier 1 providers (Mostly NL). You gotta diversify nowadays.

Using dognzb for the most part comes pretty close to full automation as far as tv and movies are concerned. Just wish there was a manual link to push the queue to my sab instead of having to wait for the site to do it when I am browsing. All in all though is pretty much set and forget.

Yep, I'm using Dognzb also. It's been working great. The Admin at Dognzb really has the remote push dialed in. Since Dognzb has closed it's registrations I didn't mention it in my original post. But I definitely recommend Dognzb to help automate your TV and Movie downloads from usenet.

Have they addressed the issue of mislabeled shows? For a few days when I added them as a search provider I constantly got mislabeled episodes that were a completely different show and even a password protected episode.

Yes, the admin contacted the Newznab developers and they made some changes to better detect the usenet spam. The admin also made changes on his end to help with the issue.

So I generally lurk, and I appreciate all the info I collect in this forum. So I thought I give back.

I bought the 60mbit »www.ssl-news.info/ with 25 concurrent connections last night for 1 month to give it a go. It easily maxed out my connection (40mbit)... It also had a few things that I couldn't find on my main provider »usenetserver.com

So far so good...

Damn... They have a coupon. 30% off.. I'll try to find it..
That being said, they're completion seems to be as bad as astraweb... I'm regretting my purchase of a year...
I get about 3mbps with them. 10mbps with astraweb.

You shouldn't sign up with anyone for a year until you are have thoroughly tested them out.

I used to have SuperNews, but signed up for ThunderNews during their Black Friday specials.

ThunderNews has been fantastic!

DogNZB for searching is a godsend.

Having both right now I am getting better completion with Astraweb than ssl-news.info

SSL-News.info has nothing pass 899days, Astraweb goes to 1600days.
